Ooty is totally safe at any time during the day and you should not have any kind of apprehension about any anti social element. However you must take proper precaution while moving late. But let me tell you there are no nightclubs or discos at Ooty except in Hotel Monarch which is very expensive. also do not venture into forest at night.

Go to KSRTC and ask them about the special tours that they organize for Ooty. You can contact Kiomoi also for help.
Alternatively, you can take the Mangalore - Trichy train to Coimbatore and from there take the picturesque Niligiri express to ooty.
You can also take the Kingfisher flight to Coimbatore from Mangalore.
I dont think there is a lot of direct traffic from Mangalore to Ooty. So, i wont be surprised if there is no direct buses; but private operators run direct buses to Coimbatore and coimbatore is very close
to Ooty.

packaged tour to ooty which will be a better option as you will be spared of the problem of having your accommodation and food.you can ask any travel agent at Mysore who will give you the time table for

Usually it rains during that time. Its the monsoon time here. But it would be fun, the weather changes in a split second we can never be sure. Plus this is when the amount of tourists visiting Ooty will be less, so it would be less congested and the hotel tariff relatively very low.

The best time to visit Ooty is between November and March, however you can also visit Ooty during April-June, but during this period the hill station remains a bit crowded and warm. July to september-october you should avoid visiting Ooty on account of rain but i personally suggest you to be in ooty between november to february the peak period with wonderful climate.

There is so much to do in ooty. There are many outdoor activities in ooty which can occupy your time.
You can visit Mudumalai wildlife Sanctuary in a day. There are guest houses inside the park if you wish to stay in side the park. Traditional massage is another great way to unwind.
The other great way to enjoy is to take a trip on the mountain train of ooty. The train begins its journey at Mettupalayam which is somewhere 46kms of ooty. The unusual thing about the train is that its engine is at the back, effectively meaning it is pushed as opposed to being pulled.

Mettupallayam is very near to coimbatore. You have two options one to take a bus from mettupalayam to ooty and the better take the toy train from mettupalayam you will have breathtking journey through the ghats of nilgiri. the train terminate at ooty and have very good frequency.

You can plan your visit to Ooty between February and May. If summers are the choice you can expect a normal temperature reaching 25C at the max. During this season you can carry along cotton clothes and a light jacket. You may also expect unannounced drizzles during the season.
There are no such uncommon places in Ooty. The places which you can visit around Ooty are:-
AVALANCHE - The ever-popular Avalanche, which derived its name, from an avalanche here in 1823, is just 24 kilometers from Ooty. It has some interesting treks and the streams are extremely productive for trout fishes.
BOAT HOUSE - Mr. Silvan made an artificial lake here in 1842. The Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation (TTDC) maintains the boathouse and keeps it open from 8 am. - 6 pm. throughout the week. Boating facilities and pony rides along the lakeside are also available.

Dear ramakant you can cover both Munnar and ooty together you can travel from Ooty to coimbatore by bus and from coimbatore take another bus to reach munnar total journey is 6-7 hours Start early for
your trip to Munnar because the route from Coimbatore is very scenic via Pollachi, Udumalpet, Chinnar and Marayoor. Lots to see along the way.

Ooty Lake

Dodabetta Peak
Flower Show The Dodabetta Peak stands at an altitude of 2,623 meters. It is the highest point in the district, making it possibly the best vantage point around Ooty. It is merely 10kms from Ooty so you can simply grab your camera and head straight to the peak, and click amazing pictures of he valley below. Many say that on a clear day, which is honestly not that often, one can see far off areas, even the plains of Coimbatore and the flat highlands of Mysore.
Lamb's Rock
Lamb's Rock is another vantage point that is ideal for taking pictures and is a wonderful picnic spot. It is merely 9kms. From Coonoor and is known for the splendid views it offers of the plains of Coimbatore and the tea states in the surrounding areas.
Kodanadu's View Point
Kodanadu is about 16kms from Kotagiri, and is situated on the eastern edge of the Nilgiri range. It is a great vantage point that offers a breathtaking view of the Moyar river and the tea estates. There is a watchtower here that offers a view of the Rangasamy peak.

From Coimbatore you can take abus to ooty or yopu can from coimbatore by bus or can reachmettupalayam which isvery near and take the toy train which teerminates at ooty. The journey in toy train is fun and thogh it takes some extra time its worth. there is very good frequency for the toy train. After having sight seeing in Kodaikanal you will get plenty of buses . It's an over night journey to kodaikanal.

HPF buses go around the town. You can catch one from ATC or Charring cross or near Hobart bus stand. Private mini buses and government local buses are also running from all those stops mentioned above. But you have to walk down from Bombay Castle, as you might know no buses climb that hill. I live there too.. Or you can walk through Hill bunk; its a nice road.

Dear Zubi, You are really going to the three beautiful hill station but in wrong time as the monsoon in june will be is full swing with hills getting maximum rain fall. In june you will have no problem of
accomodations the toursit season ends and you will get very good hotels at cheap prices. In ooty the bestplace to stay is fernhill sterling, in kodaikanal valley view sterling and lake view sterling
and carlton are the best places while at Munnar i will suggest you to stay at club mahindra or sterling holiday resort.There are lovely places to see in all the three hill stations.
In kodai you can take a cab in the morning and you will be taken on a guided tour of all the places and points. At munnar the best part are the artistic tea garden thekaddy wild life metupatty dam while in ooty please vist coonoor by toy trainand there several places which you can have through guided cab tour.

There are various other restaurents serving all kind of food veg and non veg but there nothing special food in ooty.normally the south indian dishes are the common food but there are restaurents serving north indian and rajsthani food also.

Tandoori Mahal, Commercial Rd, has good food.
Hotel Nahar has two good vegetarian restaurants and a snack bar that serves ice cream and good snacks.
Nilgiri Woodlands has good economically priced thalis.
Shinkow’s Chinese Restaurant, 42 Commissioner’s Rd, has very good Chinese food. A main dish is around Rs 60.

You may reach ooty by flight or by train. you can take a flight from Bhuvneshwar to coimbatore from where ooty can be reached in an hour and half by Road or you can take a train to coimbatore. There are no dearth of Luxury hotels to stay in Ooty. Some of them are Holiday Inn, Hotel Sinclair (which has excellent views), savoy Hotel. But my personal recommendation would be the The Taj Garden Retreat in Conoor.

Dear Zubi, The monsoon hits kerala on !st june and on hill station the rain is very heavy. it will not at all advisable to vist ooty or Munnar in june . the climate will be pleasant but constant rain will not allow you to have the pleasure of moving around the beautiful hill station and with no tourist around you will not have fun.

Ooty is a destination that can be visited all through the year. Summers are pleasant, Summers during March to May have an average temperature in the range 15°C to 20°C. Summers maximum temperature never crosses 25°C. Flower shows during February - March attract many tourists.
Taxis, tourist cabs, auto rickshaws are available in plenty. There are no standard rates except tourist cabs. Town buses are also available to all important places.

But try not exceed the speed limits and try not to overtake on the curves, as the edges of the road are not strong, and the valleys are steep driving carefully is suggested.

Depending on your length of stay, you can choose the places to visit. Normally people do not miss out places like The botanical garden, Boat house, Rose park, Children park, The dottabetta peak and the Pykara falls.
Botanical garden is one of the largest and beautiful in India. The boat house, Children's park and the deer park are located close by and places where fun is promised. One can speculate deers in the deer park.
The dottabetta peak is the second highest in South India which gives a spectacular view of the valley below. On the road to dottabetta, visiting the tea factory and the Ghori dam is suggested. One can see how tea is made in the Tea factory and the tea exhibition. The Ghori dam and the Darga near by are also worth visiting. Legend has it that the Ghori darga had a tunnel leading all the way to Mysore and this was used by Tippu Sultan.
The picturesque shooting point and the Kamaraj sagar dam are on the way to Pykara falls, These are must places to stop by.
The Anjineya temple in 'Valley view' is also a place worth a visit. This shrine is very famous in Ooty, and gives am awesome view of the Ketti Valley, which is the second largest valley in the whole world.
Races are held in the turf club during the season, which is also an attraction.
The Nilgiri Mountain Railways popularly known as the 'Toy Train' should definitely be tried. A ride from Mettupalayam to Ooty on the toy train is suggested.

By Rail:- The Chennai-Coimbatore-Kovai Express (2675) leaves daily. Chennai-Mangalore West Coast Express (6627) also has a daily service. Chennai-Coimbatore Shatabdi Express (2023) leaves daily except on Wednesdays. This one's a chair car. Another daily is the Chennai-Mettupalayam Nilgiri Express (6605).

Ooty is a lovely hill station and with time gone by and being a district head quarter now become very commercial and crowded. Still the beauty of Ooty remains. The way to commute ooty from bangalore is either by flight to coimbatore and take a bus from there or take a direct volvo service which should be better option. Food wise there are plenty of restaurents both veg and non veg and that should be a non issue. Month of march will be at ooty a pleasant month but summer setting in will not be very cool as in jan feb.
TOURIST ATTRACTIONS IN OOTY:-
Botanical Gardens:
If you are in Ooty in the month of May, then you can also be a part of the summer festival, which is held here annually. The festival holds flower shows and various cultural programs showcasing the talent of the locals and the renowned artists.
Ooty Lake:- If you love the outdoors, Ooty lake is a must see for you. It was built in 1825 and is about 2.5 km long. Dolphin's Nose:- If the name is not amusing enough for you, you can come down to this very Dolphin's nose and have a good time, enjoying games and an outdoor picnic. Ooty is connected very well with Bangalore. Bangalore is about 290 kms from Ooty and it takes about 8 hours by buy.
The KSRTC has about 7 buses to Bangalore. One is a morning depature at 10am and the rest are all night depatures starting at 9.45pm right upto 10.40pm.
You can also go to Mysore and then on to Bangalore.

First day in the morning, you an start up with The lake and spend some time there. You can also cover the Children park and the Deer park which are very near to the lake.
You should manage to cover these places by afternoon. You can proceed to the Botanical garden and also visit the rose garden. There you should try to make it up before 4 or 4-30 in the evening. Then you can proceed to Dottabetta, and spend time there until 6 or so and then come back down to the town and spend time in Charring cross.
The next day you can cover Pykara and Dolphin's nose. Be aware that you'll have to travel a bit to reach these places and actually on the opposite direction. Dolphin's nose is in Coonoor. You'll have to travel around one and a half hours to even reach this place. Then after chilling out there. You can come back to Ooty and proceed to Pykara, which is on the Gudalur road. If you are going to drive, you can directly travel towards Bangalore from Pykara. You can save time.
Or you can visit Dolphin's nose on the first day morning and come back to Ooty and check out the Garden, Lake, Charring cross and the other places. And save the next day for Dottabetta and Pykara. This way you you'll feel less tired when you start up in evening.
In any case, two days are not sufficient to cover even the major places. You need a week for that alone. But the above plan should work out pretty well.

- Lake: A popular picnic spot an important tourist attraction in Ooty, the lake offers boating in various kinds of boats. A children's park with a Toy Train, Deer Park and Mini Garden are some other features at this site.
- Doddabetta Peak: Lying at an altitude of 2,623 meters, the Doddabetta Peak is about 10 kms from Ooty.
- Pykara Falls: Located about 19 km from Ooty, the picturesque Pykara Falls and its surroundings constitute some breathtaking scenery.
- Hindustan Photo Film: This is a famous industrial unit, lying about 5 km from Ooty Railway Station. A wide range of films and chemicals used in film processing are produced here.
- Cosmic Ray Laboratory: Located in the Mutholai village of the Nilgiris, this research center conducts studies on cosmic rays coming from outside the earth's atmosphere. The center is particularly significant for its contribution to scientific developments.
- Radio Telescope: Set up at the radio astronomy center near Ooty, the telescope is about 530 m long and 30 m wide.
- Tribal Research Center: Situated about 10 km from Ooty Bus Stand, this center was established for studies on tribal communities of the state.
An added tourist attraction in Ooty is the 'Nilgiri toy train' journey which runs from Ooty to Mettupalayam. Ooty is also famous for its extensive teal plantations. The annual Tea and Tourism Festival in Ooty, attracts thousands of tourists to the place. please make sure to visit coonoor 18km from ooty . take the toy train and have a guided tour.

Taxis, three wheeler scooter rickshaws, guided tour busses and local busses ply through out the hill resort. Many rental agencies offer rented cars. Private taxis are available from all the major transit points of Ooty.
Monsoon has already hit kerala and will be in full swing in all parts in few days including ooty. June is not the right time to visit any hill station including ooty.

Coimbatore is the closest mainstream station to Ooty. You have plenty of options (18 trains) from trivandrum to coimbatore. From coimbatore take a bus to mettupalayam. after that, take a 'toy train' from mettupalayam to ooty - you won't regret it!!!
Alternatively take direct bus to ooty from Coimbatore. Ooty is having all kinds of hotel and resorts and you can stay as per your budget. There are all kinds of accommodations available.
Tourists attractions in Ooty are:- Botanical Gardens, Ooty Lake, Dodabetta Peak, Lamb's Rock, Kodanadu's View Point, Madumalai Wildlife Sanctuary, Kotagiri, Kalhatty Waterfalls, Sim's park, Dolphin's Nose, Avalanche, Coonnoor.
