Overview

Shanti Stupa is in Chanspa. It's a neighborhood not far from Leh in Ladakh. The stupa is important for its spiritual and cultural reasons. It is also very beautiful and you can enjoy gorgeous views from here. The place is perfect for admiring the scenery and relaxing. So it’s worth visiting while in Ladakh.

History of Shanti Stupa

A Japanese monk named Bhikshu Gyomyo Nakamura and local Buddhists helped build the Shanti Stupa Leh in 1991. It supported initiatives for peace that reach everywhere and it marked the 2,500-year legacy of Buddhism. His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama performed the consecration of the stupa belonging to Lord Buddha within its base. This stupa transmits peace and serves as a relaxed space for people to think and pray. You will notice the unique blend of Japanese and Tibetan architecture at this temple.

Design and Architecture of Shanti Stupa

The white Shanti Stupa Ladakh is easily visible because it sits at over 3,600 meters and stands out against the brown mountains nearby. There are two main parts to it. The stupa is brightly lit in the evenings. It can be viewed from a distance by passersby.

On the first platform, a golden Buddha is seen seated.

The second band displays important scenes from Buddha’s life history.

Spiritual Importance of the Shanti Stupa

The Stupa’s incredible architecture is matched by the spiritual meaning it has in Leh. Thousands of tourists and Buddhists from all over the world visit here. The stupa is used for meditation and prayer and gives people peace.
