Diskit Gompa
Diskit Gompa is the largest and oldest monastery you’ll find in Nubra Valley. A statue of Buddha over 100 feet tall was erected at this temple. The Dosmoche festival takes place in December and it is packed with fun and bright colors. Samstanling Monastery
Samstanling Monastery is a calm place decorated with red, white and gold. About 50 monks make their home in a monastery that was built over 140 years ago. There are lovely pictures of both Buddha and guardians painted on the walls. You will find it after following a path filled with berry trees and prayer flags. It’s a place of quiet reflection. The stairs are painted red on the way up and you can see a wonderful view. People usually come here to feel relaxed. Panamik Village
Panamik Village is 140 km from Leh, is both unpopulated and tranquil. One reason it’s known is its natural hot springs which benefit your skin. The area is located in the mountains and feels cool in the air. Because there aren’t many visitors, it is very peaceful. There are guesthouses available, where you will find a peaceful atmosphere. What makes Panamik special is that it is the only village where tourists are allowed, close to the border. Because of its hot water springs and calm atmosphere, it is a wonderful place to stop on your visit to Nubra Valley.
Yarab Tso Lake
Yarab Tso is named the “hidden lake”. You will need to climb to get there, but it’s not a bad choice. It is one of the best places to see in Nubra Valley. It is a little lake, very clean and brings lots of peace. Swimming and washing are not permitted here as the place is holy. Spending time at this lake makes you calm and gives you peace. Because the surface is so clear, it mirrors the sky and the mountains nearby. The lake is considered unique because it is calmly beautiful and fills you with a peaceful spirit.
Hunder Sand Dunes
Hunder Sand Dunes is one of the very few cold deserts found in the mountains. You’ll notice the golden sand has snow-covered mountains nearby. You should not miss the thrilling chance to ride a Bactrian camel which has double humps. You will find these camels in only a few regions of India. You could also walk on the beach or capture wonderful photographs of the surroundings. It’s the combination of a desert and mountains that makes Hunder special. Hunder Village
Nubra Valley’s Hunder Village is peaceful and attractive. People know about it because of the sand dunes and the double-humped camels. Turtuk Village
Turtuk is found at the end of India before heading into Pakistan. Nubra Valley’s culture and language are not the same as those in the rest of Ladakh. You’ll observe lovely countryside, apricot trees and houses built from wood. You’ll find that people are warm and willing to share their stories. Since it used to be in Pakistan before 1971, this village has developed its own history. It is also a very lovely area, with green valleys and lovely mountain views. What sets Turtuk apart is its culture, cuisine and how calm life is. Coming here makes me feel I’ve entered a different place.
Ensa Gompa
Ensa Gompa is a peaceful old monastery found in Nubra Valley. You have to walk up a steep hill, but once you are there, it’s extremely peaceful. The walls bear various old paintings about Buddha. Because not many people visit this place, you can experience both peace and nature there. The look from above is really impressive. It is a unique location since it is less popular than other monasteries and maintains a peaceful atmosphere. It’s relaxed and comfortable for quiet thoughts and prayers. Statue of Maitreya Buddha
You will find a large statue of Maitreya Buddha near the Diskit Monastery,. The peak is 105 feet high and depicts the future Buddha. The bottom of the statue allows you to look over all of the Nubra Valley. It appears shiny and looks extremely impressive. The sculpture was constructed to keep the valley safe and peaceful. This area makes for excellent photos and gives you a nice view. Because of its art, nature and history, this place is one of a kind. The sight of the statue calms and respects all those who look at it.
