Best Time To Visit

October to April is considered the best time to visit Meghalaya. During these months, the monsoon rains stop, the weather stabilizes, and clear skies take over. These ideal weather conditions make traveling much smoother, lower the risks for adventure sports, and ensure you can fully enjoy all outdoor activities. However, the right time to visit Meghalaya ultimately depends on the specific experiences you are looking for.

June to September 12°C to 25°C - Peak monsoon season

If heavy rain excites you more than it bothers you, June to September is your window. The waterfalls are roaring, the valleys are impossibly green, and you will see Meghalaya at its most beautiful mood. Just know that some days the rain does not stop.
Roads flood. Plans change. First-time visitors from Delhi or Mumbai are often caught off guard by how relentless it gets; this is not a light drizzle. Pack accordingly and keep your itinerary flexible.
Weather in Meghalaya Meghalaya experiences a subtropical climate, characterized by moderate temperatures throughout the year. The weather in Meghalaya is generally cool and pleasant, making it a perfect destination for travellers seeking respite from the heat and humidity of the plains.

October to November 14°C to 29°C - Sunny and Dry

If you want greenery and good weather together, October to November is the best time to visit Meghalaya. The monsoon has just ended, the landscapes are still fresh and lush, and the skies are finally clear. Most waterfalls are still running strong. The Umngot River at Dawki is at its clearest. This is the window where Meghalaya delivers everything it promises.

December to April 20°C to 22°C - Sightseeing and Trekking

For those who prefer cold, dry, and quiet travel, December to April is worth considering. Shillong gets genuinely cold in January down to 4°C some nights but the visibility is excellent and the crowds are much thinner. By March the temperature turns comfortable again, sitting around 20°C to 22°C during the day. April is the last dry month before pre-monsoon showers start building up again.

You will experience Meghalaya as the completely different place you ever visited but only if you arrive at the right time. The Khasi Hills, world famous living root bridges, the Umngot River at Dawki, the silence of a winter morning at Laitlum Canyons, none of these experiences are guaranteed just by showing up. Timing is everything here.
