The substantiation of the Mauryan era in Karnataka is the Ashoka's rock diktat found in the state. The great Chandragupta Maurya ruled the state and espoused Jainism at Shravanabelagola. Subsequent to him several other dynasties ruled the land. Some of them were the Chalukyas, the Hoysalas and the Vijayanagara. These dynasties appendaged worth to the cultural and spiritual value of the state. The most eminent empire that ruled Karnataka was the Vijayanagar dynasty. Later, Hyder Ali and his brave son Tipu Sultan ruled the state. On November 1, 1973, the integrated state was named Karnataka.
