This is one of the most pleasant periods to visit Nuwara Eliya. Days are generally comfortable for visiting Gregory Lake, Victoria Park, tea estates and Hakgala Botanical Garden.
Temperatures can remain around 15°C to 22°C during the day, while nights may become considerably colder. Indian travellers coming from warmer cities should carry a light jacket or warm layer, especially if they plan early-morning sightseeing.
This period can also be busier, particularly around April, when Sri Lanka's Sinhala and Tamil New Year celebrations bring more domestic travel. Book accommodation and transport early if your trip falls around the holiday period.
These months can bring more cloud, mist and rain to the central highlands. Outdoor plans may need some flexibility, but the landscape can look particularly green.
If you enjoy misty mountain scenery and do not mind occasional showers, this can still be a rewarding time to visit. Carry a waterproof jacket and comfortable shoes.
Rain can become more frequent during this period, and the weather may change quickly. Hiking, garden visits and tea-estate sightseeing are still possible, but it is better to keep some flexibility in your itinerary.
The cooler conditions can make evenings especially chilly, so warm clothing is useful.
Unlike coastal Sri Lanka, Nuwara Eliya remains cool throughout the year. Daytime temperatures are commonly around 15°C–22°C, while nights can drop further. Rain and mist can occur even during otherwise pleasant periods.
For Indian travellers, this difference is important: do not pack only tropical holiday clothes. A light sweater, jacket, umbrella or rain layer can make the trip much more comfortable.
