Start with Bentota Beach, where you can relax on the sand, take a long coastal walk or simply enjoy the sea views. Early morning and late afternoon are more comfortable for spending time outdoors.
Bentota is one of Sri Lanka's popular destinations for water activities. Depending on the weather and local conditions, you can try jet skiing, banana boat rides, kayaking, windsurfing and water skiing. These activities are a good choice if you want something more active than a beach day.
After spending time at the beach, head towards the Bentota River for a boat ride or river safari. You can travel through quieter waterways, see mangroves and look for birds and other small wildlife. It offers a different view of Bentota away from the busy beach areas.
For a cultural experience, visit Kande Vihara Temple, located around the Aluthgama area. The temple is known for its large seated Buddha statue and peaceful surroundings. Dress modestly and follow local temple customs while visiting.
If you enjoy gardens and art, add Brief Garden to your Bentota itinerary. The landscaped garden was created by Bevis Bawa and combines tropical plants, sculptures and artistic spaces.
Leave some time to try rice and curry, hoppers, kottu, seafood and coconut-based dishes at local restaurants. Vegetarian options are also widely available.
