For Indian travellers, Bandaranaike International Airport is the main international gateway. Direct and connecting flights to Colombo are available from major Indian cities such as Chennai, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad and Kochi, depending on current airline schedules.
After landing, you can take a private taxi, airport transfer or rental car to Bentota. The airport-to-Bentota journey is roughly 110 km by road and can take around 2.5 to 3.5 hours, depending on traffic and the route.
Bentota has its own railway station, located close to the main town and coastal areas. Trains connect Bentota with Colombo, Galle, and other destinations along Sri Lanka's southern coast.
The train is a practical choice if you want an affordable journey and do not have heavy luggage. The coastal railway route also gives you views of villages, beaches and the sea along parts of the journey.
Regular buses connect Bentota with Colombo, Galle, Aluthgama and other nearby towns. Buses are generally more affordable than private transfers, although journey times can vary because of traffic and stops.
For Indian travellers arriving after a long international flight, a pre-booked private transfer from the airport is usually the most comfortable option. If you are already in Colombo or travelling along the coast, the train can be a convenient alternative.
