Mawlynnong Village

Mawlynnong is a village in the East Khasi Hills district of the Meghalaya state in North East India. It is popularly known as the cleanest village in Asia. With its local Khasi tribe of about 500 people, the place is well renowned for its 100% literacy rate, women empowerment, and warm hospitality. The place houses one of the most beautiful tourist attractions- The Sky Walk or The Sky View. The spot is also popularly known as the Machan. It is a big structure made of 85-feet Bamboo and Cane that offers a 360-degree view of the Bangladeshi plains and the Mawlynnong Village. This Bamboo treehouse is a must-visit if you wish to witness an incredible view of the Indo Bangladesh Border. The cleanest village in Asia, Mawlynnong is mainly inhabited by the Khasi tribe, the famous tribe which has left behind the patriarchal rule of the society. Unlike other parts of India, here, the children of the family get their mother’s surname, and the wealth is passed down from the mother to the youngest daughter of the family.
