How To Reach

Jammu and Kashmir is well connected by air, rail, and road from most major Indian cities. Whether you are flying in from Delhi, taking an overnight train from Mumbai, or driving through the scenic mountain highways, reaching Kashmir is more straightforward than most travelers expect. Season and weather play a big role in connectivity — heavy snowfall can temporarily close highways and flight availability changes with demand. Planning your transport in advance is always the smarter choice.

By Air

Srinagar International Airport is the main airport serving the Kashmir Valley and receives daily direct flights from Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, and Kolkata. Jammu Airport also handles domestic flights connecting to major Indian cities. Flying is the fastest and most convenient option for travelers coming from distant cities.

Cost: Highest among all options but saves maximum travel time. Efficiency: Most time efficient option from any city in India. Time: Delhi 1.5 hours. Mumbai 2.5 hours. Bangalore and Hyderabad 4 to 5 hours.

By Train

There is no direct train to Srinagar. The nearest major railhead is Jammu Tawi Railway Station, well connected to Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore, and Hyderabad. From Jammu, Srinagar is a 7 to 8 hour road journey via NH44. Overnight trains from major cities to Jammu are comfortable, affordable, and a popular choice among budget travelers.

Cost: Most affordable option especially when combined with shared taxi from Jammu. Efficiency: Good option for travelers from Delhi and nearby cities. Time: Delhi to Jammu 8 to 10 hours by train plus 7 to 8 hours road to Srinagar.

By Road

The Jammu to Srinagar highway via NH44 is the main road route into Kashmir covering approximately 270 km and taking 7 to 8 hours. The route passes through the scenic Banihal Tunnel and offers breathtaking mountain views throughout. Private taxis, shared cabs, and state buses operate daily between Jammu and Srinagar. Road travel is best combined with a train journey to Jammu rather than driving all the way from distant cities.
