In AD 1262, a Rajput invader overpowered the local Koli heads of clan of the area and became the ruler of a place called Ramnagar, which is a small state that included Nagar Haveli in its territory. The county stayed under Rajput rule until the mid-18th century. After that, the Marathas acquired the land. After protracted skirmishes between the Portuguese and Marathas, on 17 December 1779, the Maratha Government allocated the collective returns in a few villages of this territory.
