How To Reach Kaziranga

You can reach Kaziranga by various modes of transport and enjoy the beauty of this place.

By Air: Kaziranga National Park's nearest airport is approximately 97 kilometres away located in Jorhat. Another airport around 217 kilometres is Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati.
By Train: Furkating is the closest railway station at a distance of only 75 kilometres from here.
By Road: The Road network is quite good all over the Kaziranga area with NH 37 running across it.

Kaziranga National Park lies just off National Highway No 37 between Guwahati and Jorhat. It can be easily accessed by road from either of these. Guwahati is 217 kms and Jorhat is 97 kms from Kaziranga.
Both the cities re on the airlines network and connected to some cities in India. While Indian Airlines, Jet airways and Air Sahara operate flights to Guwahati, Indian Airlines and jet Airways fly to Jorhat too.
From Guwahati the distance to Kaziranga can easily be covered in less than four hours with a midway break either at Jakhlabandha, which has good restaurants or at Naogaon. While from Jorhat it usually takes less than two hours.
The nearest railway station to Kaziranga is Furkating which is well-connected to Guwahati on the broad gauge line.

Driving Directions
The Kaziranga is a national park situated in the Golghat and Nagaon districts of the Assam state, Eastern India. Bird Watchers here can spot different species of birds at this bird sanctuary. The best way to explore the wild life is by taking a ride on bus or jeep. Deer, foxes, elephants, tigers and snakes are amongst the common finds at this wild life sanctuary. The Tezpur station is the nearest station to Kaziranga. The wild life bird sanctuary is nestled 60 Kms from this domestic airport. The Guwahati rail head which is more than 200 Kms away from Kaziranga can be reached by hiring taxi or boarding bus. The government buses are frequently available from Guwahati and Tezpur.

Safari Routes: You can go for either a jeep safari or an elephant safari. Generally, the vehicles of the Forest Department are not available for the tourists; jeeps can be hired at the Kohora Chowk or can be arranged through your hotel. There are three safari routes that one can opt from at the Kaziranga National Park.

Best Time to Visit: The best time to visit the national park is from mid-November to early April months. During the monsoons season, there is overflowing at the River Brahmaputra resulting in the flooding of the low-lying grasslands. Due to the flooding at the park, the animals migrate to higher areas within the Kaziranga National Park. 

Expenses: Visiting Kaziranga independently can be expensive due to the two-tier price system, with different entry costs for Indian nationals and foreigners. There are separate charges for elephant safari and jeep rides from the lodges to the park entrance, as well as a system of variable camera fees.
