A town known for its fishing spots, Diu comes under the Diu district in the Dadra and Nagar Haveli union territory in India. It is the tenth least populated district in the country. The city is in the running for Narendra Modi's Smart Cities Mission funds. By April 2018, it was declared that Diu Smart City was the first Indian city to run on 100% renewable energy during the daytime. The town of Diu is connected with the mainland by a bridge. People can travel via local transports by road from Una, Gujarat. An Air India subsidiary, Alliance Air, flies from Mumbai and lands at the Diu Airport. Previously Jet Airways also used to have airline services to Diu.
