How to Reach Munnar

Buses, auto-rickashaws and rickshaw comprise local transportation in Munnar. Otherwise, tourists can hire cycles and bikes on rent as a means of transportation here. Raja cycles and Gokulam Bike Hire rent out cars and bikes per day at Rs 250. Autorickshaws run around the hills with bone-shuddering efficiency charging somewhat Rs 150 to Rs 650 for full sightseeing and other places accordingly. Alternatively, buses are also an efficient and cheaper conveyance than autos. Well, Munnar has quiet a decent number of buses running inter and intra-state buses catering to the tourist and locals alike. KSRTC bus stand located to the south of the hill station. Rickshaw is best medium to hop to a short distance. A novel way to sight out Munnar is car hiring. Cars can be hired to the extent of 80 km per day or can be paid meter wise accordingly.

Hike at Eravikulam National Park
Eravikulam National Park is requisite-visit in Munnar. The park is home to some 3000 ibex, elephants, lion-tale macaque and prominently Nilgiri Tahr (an endangered species and found at two places) and many more. Reaching Eravikulam National Park is quiet an escapade as you canÂ?t take your car directly. A good 30 min hike will make you reach the park.

Many brooks, stream, mountains and rivulets in Munnar offer a unique delight to anglers and fishing buffs. Two major places famous with anglers are Gravel Banks and Devikulam Lake; almost at a distance of 25 km. Gravel Bank is tucked in the remote corners of Nyamakad Estate. In order to reach Gravel, visitors will have to pass from Eravikulam National Park open area and scenic lures of Nyamakad Tea Estate.
Note: Anglers must have permit before going for sports. Also, they are expected to bring their own rods and reels. All angling enthusiasts are expected to maintain a record of all catches.
Good news for golfers: Munnar has two Golf grounds. Set in the wooded surroundings, the High Range and Kundale Club offer excellent golfing opportunity. High Range permits to play free, but Kundale Club doesn`t allow it free of cost until you take the resort for accommodation. One must have a prior permission before availing the facility.

Shopping in Munnar
Shopping in Munnar is not-so-promising. The markets are minus glitz and glam of a showroom—a local bazaar set up. Besides the local veggies, woollens, tea, coffee, spices, spices, seasonal fruits etc. are seen arranged not-so-aesthetically in the narrow lanes of the this bazaar. The majority of bazaars are owned by the private owners but the presence of Government Shops can also be felt in the market. Munnar’s best buys are all its local products.
Shop TATA Tea
Munnar is all meant to buy tea and better quality tea, which cannot be procured anywhere else in the country. Tea and history is 25 years old in Munnar. Several tea kiosks and shops are full-fledged engaged into tea selling, as many the smaller and larger tea shop are owned by local people. But the safest bet is to buy tea from TATA Tea Sale Outlet (Phone: 04865-230561-65). You can visit the sale counter between 9.30 am-7 pm any time, located on the basement of the Company’s Regional office. Lay your hand on the best quality tea such as colonial tea (lowest Rs 140 for half kg), Lemon Tea, Green Tea, etc. White Tea (which is tea bud) is the most expensive tea quality costing Rs 6000. Just not tea, but Eucalyptus, Lemon Grass and Citiodora are some of the other buys here.
Unlike tea, strawberries are seasonal pick ups. Fresh and best in quality, strawberries are sold at chosen outlets. You can buy strawberries (Rs 35/ 200 gm, Rs 75/ 500 gm) at Tata Tea’s Shristhi Welfare Centre between 9 am-4.30 pm. This centre is located at Nullathanini Estate, a 7-13 min drive from Munnar.
Spices are available in abundance in Munnar.
