Dear Rishita,

Thanks for your query in Kiomoi,

From where you will be reaching Panvel? It depends a lot on that because if you are travelling by public transportation like buses, you could easily continue till Panvel.

From Panvel ST Depot, a bus leaves for Panvel every 20 minutes or so. You can easily get seating place in the bus. It takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes or so for bus travel. If there is traffic, it may take little longer. MSRTC ( popularly known as ST ) runs regular as well as semi-luxury buses on this sector. This is the only means of reaching Alibag from Panvel.

If you are coming from Mumbai, you can explore alternative. You can take a boat ride from Gateway of India to Mandwa jetty. From there, boat company will take you by chartered bus to the Alibag city. Total travel time from Gateway till Alibag is about 1.30 hours. But boat services are not in operation during monsoons.

Good Day !!!

Daer Rishita,

Thanks for your query in Kiomoi,

For Alibag from Panvel you can travel by state transport buses as the most economical mean of transport else you will have to take a cab.Alternative to take a train from panvel which is going to Goa and get down at penfrom where Alibag ius only 28km which you can cover by cab or state transport bus.

Good Day !!!

Dear JugniChanpoo,
regards!

From Nashik you need to come to Mumbai. For this you can travel by train. Train travel is the cheapest mode of transport in India.

From Mumbai you can reach Alibag by various modes of transport.
1. From Dadar or Thane, get into ST bus for Alibag. Several buses ply on this route as Alibag is the weekend destination of people surrounding Mumbai city. Travel time will be about 2.5 hours to 3.5 hours.

2. Travel till CST from Nashik. Walk for about 20 minutes or take a taxi. Reach Gateway of India. Take a launch / catamaran ( boat ) for Allibag. The boat will take you to Mandwa jetty. From there the boat company provides FREE bus service till Alibag city. Total travel time about 1 hour 20 minutes or so. Boat tickets range from Rs.60/- to Rs.120/- depending on boat capacity / speed of the boat etc. Ajanta is cheapest, PNP operates AC service hence costliest. Maldar has beautiful big size boat and charges somewhere between Ajanta and PNP.

3. From Thane ( you need to get down at Thane from your train), take a train for Vashi. At Vashi station change to Panvel train and travel to Panvel. From Panvel bus depot ( hardly 5 minute walk from the station - there's a short cut road at the back entrance of the station), you can take Alibag bus ( every 20 minutes there is a bus). If your train ( from Nashik) doesn't stop at Thane, you can get down at Dadar or if the train goes to LTT go to Tilak Nagar station and get onto Panvel train.
Panvel to Alibag is 1.5 hours at the most.

Good Day !!!!

Dear zoobion,
regards!

Thanks for your query in Kiomoi, Alibag is the most preferred weekend town of Mumbai and Pune people. It is one of the historical places on the Maharashtra coast. There are many places / spots in and around Alibag which you can visit and savour the historical importance or the beauty of the place. Food options are many but the town is better known for fish dishes.

There are several staying / accomodation options catering to all budgets in and around town.

Alibag is easily reachable from both Mumbai and Pune. ( almost equidistance - 4 hours of travel or so). You can take your own car or travel by buses run by MSRTC ( both general and luxury , semi-luxury options available ).

It is very very difficult to detail a very long response here as the number of places/spots are literally many. Still I will mention a few here:
1. Kulaba fort ( also known Alibag fort ). near the small beach of Alibag town.
2. Kanhoji Angre memorial ( He was Naval Chief of King Shivaji's Kingdom)
3. Kihim, Varsoli, Kashid and Murud beaches
4. Janjira, Korlai forts
5. Ancient temples of Kankeshwar, Dutta - Shitaladevi - and various temples at Chaul
6. Ganapati temple at Salav ( Birla temple )
7. Permanent sculptures exhibition at Sasawane by well known artist Karmarkar
8. Magnetic observatory at Alibag ( only of its kind ).
9. Revdanda creek and beach and the town inside dilapidated fort.

Good Day !!!!

Dear irfankhan,

Alibag has been very famous since a very very long time. It is because of its strategic geographical location. It is across the Mumbai harbour and easily reachable. It is very very green area with lots of forest / tree cover. And India's only magnetic observatory is situated there ( set up by British people). It is home to several freedom fight moments and freedom fighters as well as co-operative movement. It is the first and only place which saw combination of farmers and workers as a political force in independent India. There are various forts and religious places around Alibag town which are very ancient. And due to easy access it has become "weekend" town for Mumbai and Pune people. Alibag has become famous because of all this and more.

During 1940s and 50s, many Alibag area people shifted to Mumbai and at that time they were non properly educated. They could not understand the way city people conduct themselves and seen to be backward at that time. The term "alibag se aaya kya" was due to this fact. But with changing times, people have changed and the term is too derogatory in current situation. The new generation is actually better educated than many in Mumbai. In fact the first Finance Minister - Mr C D Deshmukh came from Alibag region. I suggest - please DO NOT use this term which is very wrong and unreal in today's world. And mind you, I do not belong to Alibag region.

Good Day !!!!!

Dear anjanee,
regards!

But then I could not understand your question in the first place. Go ahead and enjoy Alibag - I can say this!

Probably you wish to know the major attractions around Alibag- here's the list.

1. Seashores
There are several seashores around Alibag. Few wellknown are Kihim, Akshi, Alibag, Nagaon, Mandwa, Kashid. Of course Murud has a very beautiful seabeach but about 50 kms away from Alibag. If you are going to Alibag now, be very very cautious and alert when you are near sea shores. During monsoons, seas are too strong and very very unpredictable. If you can AVOID swimming - best !

2. Sanctuary at Phansad - few kms away on Murud road. It is known for deer population there and dense tree cover.

3. Birla Ganesh temple at Salav - again few kms on Murud road.

4. Few very old temples in Chaul area.

5. Magnetic observatory in Alibag city ( must be 100 year old)

6. Permanent exhibition of works of world famous sculptor - Mr Karmarkar - at village Sasawane ( on Alibag to Mandwa road)

7. Hilltop temple ( ancient ) of Kanakeshwar

8. Korlai and Alibag forts. Korlai dates back to 14th century and easy to climb. While visiting Alibag fort, please consult high tide time with local people ( the fort is surrounded by surging sea waters during tides).

9. Mandwa and Rewas jetties ( have a distant look at Mumbai skyline from here)

Wish you happy moments in Alibag.

Now kiomoi.com(Kiomoi) is authorised agent of MTDC.

Good Day.

Situated on Revdanda creek on Alibag to Murud road. There is a light house at the bottom of the ancient fort. Kids can enter and climb to the top of light house, too. He was well known artist in his time.

Visit Magnetic Observatory in Alibag city, various ancient temples in Chaul - Revdanda areas ( near by Alibag city), visit Birla temple at Salav village. If possible and if you like, try visiting Phansad Sanctuary - lots of wild life there. Take permission from forest department before you go.

There are several other forts and spots worth visiting but then monsoons is not the best time to visit.

Now kiomoi.com is authorised agent of MTDC.

Good Day.

2 Manishlamba How is the climate of Alibag this time and would it be right time to visit ?
Dear Manishlamba,
regards!

Alibag is one of the fav weekend destination for Mumbai and Pune people. So any weekend you will find lots of people in and around the town, irrespective of climatic conditions.

At this time, Alibag will be hotter during the days ( in fact from early mornings to late evenings it will be very hot weather). You will be sweating a lot ,too due to the proximity of seashores.

If you like sunshine and hot weather + lots of sweating - yes this is the correct time to be in Alibag. But frankly it will be wiser to be in shade during the day time - stay indoors for the better part of the day.

There are many places around Alibag where you can be in dense tree cover during the day - resorts / hotels / small cottages. And by the evening you can enjoy the cool sea-breeze.

Wish you happiness - if you decide to be there at this time.

Now kiomoi.com is authorised agent of MTDC.

2 Bhagat HOw far Chaul Revdanda from alibag and information of sightseeing places in Chaul Revdanda .
Dear Bhagat,

The distance between Alibaug city and Chaul is about 14 kms. Several ST buses ply on this route. Autorickshaws run share-basis services for this destination.

Chaul has a long history and one of the prominent battle between Portugese ( then rulers of Chaul ) and a joint army of Gujarat Sultanate and Mamluks (Egypt) was fought here. Portugese were beaten in this war. So expect lots of ancient spot in and around the present day small town.

Chual is very well known for it's ancient temples. Few often visited ones are Dutta Mandir ( you need to climb around 700 steps on a hillock), Shitala Mata temple, Rameshwar mandir ( Hemadpanthi style ).

Nearby is Revdanda town ( actually they are twin towns now ) where you can visit Chapel of St Francis Xavier ( who delivered his sermon in very old times here). The town has a nice and clean beach, too. The town is actually a walled fort with hugh walls still existing in several points around the town.

Just across the creek is Korlai fort - earlier held by Portugese ( it was originally built by Morro de Chaul in 15th century ) and later taken over by King Shivaji ( He started a canon production factory there). Currently it has a lighthouse, too. You can observe the vast expanse of the Arabian sea from atop the fort. You can see and touch several old canons ( discarded now).

If you have time, do visit the Ganesh temple in Birla Ispat premises - nice garden and nice idol and temple.

If you are willing to travel bit futher, you can visit Murud and Janjira fort.

Wish you happy moments.

Now kiomoi.com(Kiomoi) is authorised agent of MTDC.

Good Day.

Dear MayankShukla,
regards!

Chaul and Revdanda are now twin towns due to ever expanding human settlements. The distance is about 14 kms from Alibaug. The road going towards Murud-Janjira passes through the towns. Ask for Murud Janjira road and keep travelling on the same. The road passes through Nagaon, Sagmala before it reaches Revdanda.

Revdanda has nice beach and several ancient spots to visit including chapel of St Francis Xavier. Chaul is more famous for very ancient temples ( Shitala Mata, Rameshwar and Dutt temples are well known.) Just across the Revdanda creek is a 15th century Korlai fort . Birla Ganesh temple is famous spot ( nice hugh garden and beautiful idol).

Now kiomoi.com(Kiomoi) is authorised agent of MTDC.

Good Day.

Get on Mumbai bound train. Get down at either Dadar railway station or Thane. I will say Dadar is the best solution.

From Dadar east side ( hardly 5 minute walk), you will find buses going to Alibag. But the frequency is not great. Alternately you can take a Panvel bus, get down at Panvel bus depot and get into Alibag bus. At Panvel you will find Alibag bus every 15 minutes or so. From Panvel to Alibag is about 2 hours and 15 minutes and between Dadar and Panvel another 1 hour travel.

If you prefer travelling by boat ( through the sea ), get down at CST ( earlier known as VT) - goto Gateway of India - get into a launch ( charges 65 to 120 per person depending on which boat you take )- it will take you to Alibag ( at Mandwa jetty you need to get down at take a bus provided by the boat people for last 12-15 kms travel. No extra charges. Max travel time between Gateway and Alibag is 1 hour 15 minutes.)

Be very very alert whenever you are near seashore. Avoid getting into sea water if possible. 3 ratnakamal How far Alibagh from Delhi and cheapest way to reach..........
Dear ratnakamal,

Alibag is next door to Mumbai. So from Delhi it is tooooo far a place to visit.

If you are planning to visit Mumbai, then it is very easy for you to visit and enjoy Alibag.

From Mumbai the best way to reach Alibag is :

Catch a boat ride at Gateway of India. The beautiful boat ride will take you to Mandwa Jetty and from there the boat company will take you in their own bus service to reach Alibag. It takes about 1 hour 15 minutes for the entire journey. You can spend a day in Alibag and return by the late evening boat to Mumbai. Easy and fast journey both ways.

Alternately, you can hire a private vehicle and travel by road, too. This way you need not worry about boat timings and enjoy more time in Alibag as well as on few spots while on the road.

Good Day.

Dear Ratnakamal,

Alibag is very close to Mumbai and you need to come to mumbai and have a road travel of 4 hours to reach the beaches of Alibag. If you plan to come to Alibag from Delhi only to visit alibag than its not worth visiting. But if you atre cobining your programme for Mumbai or Goa than you can also visit alibag. Its a days trip not more than that to spend at alibag which has overall 9 beaches.

Good Day.

Switch to harbour line and catch Panvel train. From Panvel goto Panvel bus depot ( 5 minute walk from station : TIP: get into guardside i.e. rear bogie in the local. There's a shortcut to bus stand from back side of Panvel station.). There are plentiful of buses to Alibaug. Frequency is about 15 minutes. Bus travel will take max 90 minutes.

3. Catch a direct Alibaug bus either fro Mumbai Central bus depot or Parel bus depot. The buses do stop at Dadar ( just opposite to ASIAD bus stand in Dadar East). Frequency is poor.

Beware: be very very alert near sea-beach.
Dear Gminakshi
regards!

1. Shopping: Alibaug is hardly an hour from Mumbai hence whatever you can shop in Mumbai is available in Alibaug, too. Ofcourse variety is not much on the offer. Normally people do not go there for shopping. Ofcourse people do shop but they buy agro based items like fresh vegetables, pulses, rice, spices, fresh fruits etc in Alibaug. And if you are based in Panvel, going all the way to Alibaug for shopping is not advisable. Mumbai is a better choice for you - well connected by railways ( local trains every 20 minutes or so) as well as road ( lots of buses ply to Mumbai). Even New Mumbai is an option for you.

2. From Panvel : Please go to Panvel ST bus depot. All Dadar ( Mumbai ) to Alibaug buses stop there. There is a special bus service, too ( Panvel to Alibaug ) from this depot. Normally within 15 minutes you will find a Alibaug bound bus here. Few buses are Asiad types i.e. semi-luxury. If you go by this bus, you reach earlier as it doesn't stop at many places. Local buses do stop at almost every stop. Max travel time will be about 2 hours or so.

Caution : please be very very alert and vigilant near sea shores. The sea is deceptive here and may prove risky. If you plan to visit the in-water fort, ask local people about tide time. Be very sure of tide time and then only visit. Else it is very dangerous to come back.

Wish you happy holidays in Alibaug.

Dear Abhilashawazarkar
regards!

You can either drive down to Alibaug or can choose to travel by the ferry services. You can't do both at the same time.

Driving directions:-

From Andheri - Bandra - Sion - Vashi - Panvel should be the initial route. At Panvel switch to Kokan highway ( well known as Mumbai - Goa ). Important towns or sites will be Karnala bird sanctuary - Pen town - Wadkhal naka. At this point, leave the highway and keep driving straight. There is only a left turn here which will take you to Goa. So NO TURNS here. You will come to a toll plaza soon near Ispat factory. Keep going. After Poynad village, soon you will be at the base of Karle Khind ( mountain pass ). Keep going straight and ignore the right turn. Soon after you traverse the Karle Khind you will be in Alibaug city. You might be driving for about 3 hours and 40 minutes non-stop from Andheri by now.

Ferry serives:-

Three boat companies run ferry serives from Gateway of India. PNP runs an airconditioned catamaran service and costs about Rs.110/- one way. Ajanta runs a smallish boat ( about 60 to 70 persons capacity) and charges 65/- one way. Maldar catamaran operates a large boat ( about 250 people capacity ) and charges 85/- one way. The fare includes bus travel from Mandwa jetty ( where the boats dock) to Alibaug city. Total travel time from Gateway to Alibaug is about 1 hour and 10 minutes or so.

Right now I do not possess the timetable for this season. But boat time depends on weather conditions and tide times. You can get early morning boat at about 8 am and will find boats at the interval of 15 to 30 minutes thereafter but then you will have to travel by whichever boat is available at the time you reach.

Wish you happy and memorable holidays!

Nitin

Dear Mr. Abhishek,

There are boats and hovercrafts leaving from the Gateway of India on a daily basis from 0600 hrs to 1800 hrs except during monsoons. Journey time is 45 minutes to Mandwa and approximately 45 min. onwards by bus to Alibag. The fare is around Rs: 100. Small passenger service boats ply frequently between Mumbai and Mandwa or Rewas. They are cheap but take more than 90 min.

There are a number of buses plying round the clock from Mumbai, Parel, Dadar, Borivali and Thane. Alibag is on the Mumbai-Goa route (not exactly - from Vadkhal - there is a diversion) and is also accessible by Konkan Railway. Get down at Panvel and you can catch a bus.

Dear Mr. Sameers,

Enjoy at an Escapade Madh Island is another popular spot, which comes off surprisingly in the rural area of Mumbai's northwestern coast. It is dotted with the bungalows of the urban upper class. It has a reputation as a discreet place to throw beach parties and hold techno raves. Madh is lined by a series of unspoilt sandy beaches.

The beaches are not particularly picturesque, strong currents and shifting sands make the sea too treacherous for swimming. The main reason to come here is to escape the urban environment, explore the fishing villages and enjoy a stroll along the seashore.

HOW TO GET THERE : Located in the suburbs of Mumbai, Madh Island is easily accessible. Mumbai city is well connected by local trains, which reach every corner of the city, and tourists can also reach Madh by city buses.

Good Day

Dear Ziauddin
regards!

Travelling directions:-

1. You can choose to travel by the sea route. From Gateway of India, the boats will take you to Mandwa jetty and from there on the buses provided by the boat companies will take you to Alibag city. The journey time is about 1 hour and 30 minutes from Gateway to Alibag. Three boat companies offer services - Ajanta operates a small boat fleet, Maldar is operating a big vessel ( comfortable feeling while travelling ) and PNP is operating an airconditioned craft ( if you are travelling by sea why one needs an AC mode of travel is beyond my thinking powers ).

2. You can travel by road ( either in mass transport like ST buses or your vehicle / car). From Mumbai you need to reach Panvel. The important towns/villages are Panvel to Pen to Vadkhal naka. At Vadkhal naka, there are couple of hotels providing nice breakfast ( Aamantran on your left is the best ). At this point keep going straight ( left turn here will take you on Goa highway, so keep straight and no turns here). Next you will be crossing a toll naka on Dharamtar creek - Poynad village ( a crowded village ) - soon you will be in Karle khind ( here a right turn will take you towards Mandwa jetty hence please do not take a turn.) cross the curvy and up-down mountain pass ( khind ) - be careful here please - and soon you will be in Alibag. Total travel time from Dadar to Alibag in your own vehicle will be about 3 hours and 30 minutes or so depending on traffic jams.

Accomodations:-

Beachside accomodation is difficult in Alibag city. There is only 1 hotel just near the Alibag beach. You need to reach the hotel and ask for the rooms. But Bigsplash in the heart of the city is nice property. Moreover the beach is hardly a kilometer from this point.

You might find several small operations like bed and breakfast accomodations at several villages near sea side.

You can actually view and book nice accomoation with www.kiomoi.com. There are several options listed on the website and ranked properly. Do explore this option.

Caution : be very very alert near sea-shores. Dangerous at many places.

Wish you memorable holidays.
Nitin.

2 Swapna What are the places to see in Alibag?
Hi Swapna,

There are many places to enjoy the beauty of Alibag. Following are the few:-

KOLABA FORT:- it is located 1 km across from Alibag beach. The fort can only be accessed during ebb tide through a narrow strip of land which goes underwater during high tide. The huge front entrance arch has tigers, peacocks, elephants sculpted on it. Beyond that comes another small gate. Next to that gate are the shrines of Mahishasura and Padmavathi, Kanifnath, Sri Ganesh and the fort-deity.

VARSOLIBEACH:- It is situated just on the outskirts of Alibag. It is relatively less visited site and as a result is a quiet beach with sparkling white sand and cleaner seawater. Varsoli is a small satellite village across Alibag, complete with thick vegetation of coconut and Casuarina.

REVDANDAPORT:- This historic Port is the last destination in Alibag Taluka, situated 17 kms from Alibag. The creek, which meets the Arabian sea, separates Alibag and Murud Talukas. The creek is busy with sand and fish carrying vessels.

REVDANDA AAGARKOT:- Revdanda is 17 kms to the south of Alibag where remnants of huge outer walls of this fort. These walls run 5-6 kms in length.

KHANDERI:- Three to four kilometers into the sea from Thai beach, which is 5 kms from Alibag, this fort is on a small island. With the Bombay Port Administration permission, you can visit the fort in local boats.

SAGARGADH:- This hill-fort, 7kms from Alibag is an old fort of Shivaji's times. A dirt-track road to this fort begins at Khandala on Alibag-Pen road to the East. Half-way to the fort is Siddheshwar temple and an Ashram, where you can rest a while. During rainy season, one finds a cascading waterfall at this spot.

SRIDATTATEMPLE, BHOVALEl (CHAUL):- 18 kms from Alibag on Alibag-Revdanda road, this is another very famous hill shrine. One has to climb around 700 stairs to reach this shrine surrounded by vegatation. Important landmarks are Swami Samartha Mutt, Sadhana Kutir, HareRam retiring room, Hare Ram Baba Dhuni Mandir, Audumbar Mutt, Mai Jankibai Mutt.

SHITALADEVI TEMPLE (CHAUL):- On Alibag-Revdanda Road, 14kms away from Alibag is Chaul and from there one can hire on autorickshaw to reach this ancient temple-Originally it was built with a tiled roof and wooden structure.

KASHIDBEACH:- The famous Kashid beach is located 18 kms from Murud. The specialty of this beach is the beautiful slivery white sand. It's a favorite spot for advertising, TV serial and film shoots. The beach is complete with small-food stalls. If you are travelling from Alibag to Murud, the last U-turn in the Ghat section of the road that descends on the Kashid beach is simply mesmerizing'! MURUDBEACH:- Murud beach is surrounedd on three sides by mountains. The water here is clear blue and the sand is slivery white. The sunset from this beach is also fabulous.

JANJIRA FORT:- It is 5 kms from Murud. Here is a sculpture in stone depicting a Lion that has overpowered six elephants.

There are many more places which can be explored in Alibag apart from the beaches.

Enjoy !!!

3 KalpeshShah Can u pls tell me the driving directions from Kandivali to Alibag. What all are the places to enjoy in Alibag for children? Please inform me about some budgeted hotels as well. Dear Mr kalpesh shah, From kandivli take the western express highway and come to sion and via chembur navi mumbai panvel take turn towards mumbai goa road. you will come to pass karnala pen revdanda and you will reach Alibag. basically alibag is a gateway for quick vacation for mumbaikars famous for the lovely clean beaches. The Akshi Beach is a beautiful white sand beach. Plenty of suru trees can be seen along the coast. The hamlet of Akshi is just 5 km away from Alibag. Alibag Beach is the main beach of the town. On the outskirts of Alibag is Versoli Beach. The beach is a quiet one. The beach is not visited by many tourists. It houses a very large naval base. Someshwar Temple is in Akshi which is only 3 km away from Alibag. Enroute to the beach there are many shilas. One of the shilas is close to the Someshwar Mandir. This temple is situated near the deepasthambh. As far as hotels are concerned there are many hotels to stay in Alibag:- 1. Akshay Bungalow:- Beautiful bungalow to stay with. Located Near Chaitanya Hospital Alibag. 2. Sunglow resort:- Sea Face, Zilla Parishad Rd Alibag. For more details & bookings you can contact kiomoi.com. They will assist you. Best Wishes PP Jain

Dear Kalpeshshah regards! Traveling directions: From Kandivli - reach Panvel ( either travel on Western Express Highway till Bandra and switch to Mumbai - Pune highway via Sion) or ( travel till Ghodbunder - switch to Ghodbunder road - Thane - Belapur road - Jui Nagar - till Panvel. From Panvel - switch to Mumbai to Goa highway - Karnala bird sanctuary ( sharp turns and small ghat section ) - Toll naka - Pen town - Wadkhal Naka. At Wadkhal naka do not take turn. There is a turn on your left but it will continue to Goa, so keep going straight. Soon you will find another toll naka - Ispat factory complex - bridge on Dharamtar creek - keep going on without any diversions - soon you will come to Karle Khind ( ghat section ) - if you take a right turn here you will go to Mandwa jetty road so keep straight and cross the Ghat sections - you will reach Alibaug. Total travel time from Kandivali may be about 3 hours and 30 minutes ( depending on traffic jams in Mumbai). Places to see:- There area several beaches in and around Alibag. Beaches : Alibag city, Kihim, Nagaon-Akshi, Kashid, Murud-Janjira. Beware of tide time. Be very very cautious when near the sea. Forts:- Alibag fort ( you must enquire about tide time before you go here as during high tide the fort is cutoff from the city and surround by volatile sea waters. Be extremely cautious. If possible take a local guide with you.) Korlai fort : on Alibag to Janjira road. You need to cross the Salav bridge after Revdanda. There is a beautiful light house at the base of the fort. Pay the official fees and you can climb the lighthouse plus you can get lots of information about the working of lighthouse here. Then you can climb the stone steps at the back ( about 20 minutes climb ) and you will reach the fort. Very few people visit this fort. But views from the top are excellent. Be alert when in the fort as there is lots of grass and bushes ( snakes may be there ). Janjira fort : About 50 kms from Alibag. You will cross the creek in small boats to reach the in-sea fort. Take a guide but do not spend more than 50 to 100 bucks on guide. Another historical site. Visit ancient temples in Chaul - Revdanda areas. Visit a beautifully maintained garden and Ganesh temple in Salav ( Birla Ispat factory premeises) Visit Sasawane village. ( on Alibag to Mandwa jetty road.) There is a sculptures museum. Artist Karmarkar was a well known and renowned person. Worth visit. There are several options in and around Alibag for accommodation. Many hotels in bus depot areas. You can enquire about bed and breakfast accommodations. Inquire Kiomoi for this. Nice options. One bed & breakfast at Sasawane is nice, just at the back side of the Karmarkar Musuem. Wish you memorable holidays. Nitin

Dear Dha regards! From Thane you need to reach Panvel. Must be about max 25 kms or so. There are two routes. One from Thane - Diva - Mumbra - Panvel. Another from Thane - Mahape - Turbhe - Jui Nagar - Panvel. From Panvel - Pen ( about 28 kms ) - Wadkhal naka ( about 6 kms ) - Poynad village - Karle Khind - Alibag ( about max 35 kms from Wadkhal naka ) is the route. Though I have mentioned the distances, these are not exact and might be over / under by few kilometers. Wish you a memorable trip at Alibag. Please be very careful near sea-front. Most dangerous at Alibag beach. Nitin.

Dear Piya, Alibag is very close to navi mumbai a distance can be covered by you in a car in 2 to max 3 hours. Alibag is on mumbai goa road after kjarnala and revadanda you will get to alibag and is famous for its lovely beaches. As far as amreshwar temple its not very well known but once you reach alibag you can always find out about the same. its not a famous temple. however if its also known as kankeshwar temple then details are as follows and also about other temples. The temple is situated on a small hill and the nearby village is ' Mapgaon ' which is almost 12 kms. from Alibag. The hill is almost 370 m high and you have to climb 700+ steps to reach the temple. Ask somebody about 'Nagobacha Tappa', 'Devachi Payari', 'Pushkarni','Gaymukh' and 'Vyaghreshwar' It's fun to visit this place...I'm sure..You'll love it... The Other temples are as follows:- Shitaladevi Temple:- Near Chul, Approx. 20 Km away from Alibag. Datta Mandir (Thal):- Just 5 kms away from Alibag...built by Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilizers. Nageshwar (Aawas):- Near Sasawane - Approx. 20 kms away from Alibag.. Thanks! pp jain

Dear Sakshisawant regards! From where would you start your journey ? Unless I know this, it is very difficult to respond specifically. For now I assume that you are in Mumbai and will be going to Alibag from Mumbai. Here are the directions: 1. If you are travelling by public transport: From Mumbai ( Dadar ), there are buses plying to Alibag. Just opposite the Asiad bus stand in Dadar (East), you can board a bus. Alternately there are several buses ( frequency about 15 minutes ) going to Panvel. You can go to Panvel bus depot and get on a bus for Alibag ( again in Panvel depot the frequency of Panvel - Alibag buses is about 15 minutes ). Total time of travel will be about 1 hour 15 minutes for Dadar to Panvel and about 1 hour 30 minutes for Panvel to Alibag. 2. You can opt to travel by sea route, too. There are 3 boat companies operating ferry services for Alibag. The boats start from Gateway of India. Maldar is a good boat. Ajanta operates small boats, bit scary for new people and PNP operates air conditioned catamaran. Charges : Ajanta - Rs.65/- , Maldar - lower deck 85/- Upper - 100/- and PNP- 110/-. The boats dock at Mandwa jetty and from there on you will be travelling by bus to Alibag. The buses are provided by the boat companies and fare includes the bus charges, too. Total travel time about 1 hour 20 minutes from Gateway. 3. If you travel by your own vehicle, here are the directions: From Mumbai, get on the Mumbai - Pune highway. From Dadar - Vashi - Belapur - Kalamboli - Panvel is the route. From Panvel switch to Mumbai - Goa highway. Important points here are Karnala bird sanctuary - Pen city - Wadkhal naka. At this juncture, keep driving straight. If you take a left turn here you will be travelling to Goa, so do not take a turn. Aamantran is a good hotel for snacks at Wadkhal naka, just at the mouth of the naka on your left. From Wadkhal you will be passing Ispat factory complex - crossing Dharamtar creek bridge - Karle khind ( a curvy ghat section) and reach Alibag city. Accommodation: There are several options in city from low cost to ultra-high costs. In the city, Big Splash ( in the center of town) is hugh property and well known. Meera Madhav, just opp the bus stand is good. Ramakant, again opp bus stand, is convenient but bit costly. Ruchi Tarang is old but good value , at the back of bus stand and has quality only veg restaurant. There are several "Bed and Breakfast" accommodations in and around Alibag. For details you need to contact kiomoi.com for complete list and bookings. Sight seeing: Alibag fort, situated bit in the sea, accessible only in the low tide time is good. Do ask for tide time and then only try visiting the fort else you will be forced to be locked up in the fort for long time. If possible take a local person as guide along with you from the Alibag beach. It is safer. Alibag beach is a tiny strip, not much worth. Akshi, Kashid, Kihim, Nagaon and Murud are all known beaches. Be very alert when near the sea. Better be safe than sorry should be the motto here. Birla temple ( Ganesh ) is a popular point. Open only in the evenings. Hugh idol and beautifully landscaped garden are the USPs here. About 14 kms from Alibag city. Janjira fort is worth a visit. About 55 kms from Alibag on a winding road. You need to take a small boat ride here to reach the in-sea fort from the shores. Kankeshwar temple ( on Alibag - Mandwa jetty road ) is ancient temple complex, situated on a hill top and about 12 kms from the city. You need to climb the hill, bit tiring. Korlai fort and the lighthouse is another good point. You can pay the fee and go at the top of lighthouse + ask for all the info about lighthouses etc here. Alibag - Revdanda and cross the Salav bridge, take a turn ( right ) to Murud road. About 3 kms and you need to take another right turn which passes through the Korlai village and reaches lighthouse. Chaul is historic town and boasts of several old temples ( ancient actually ). Nandgaon Ganesh temple is well known, on Murud road. Phansad sanctuary is worth a visit. It is a deer sanctuary spread on several kms area. You need a permit from forest department. Karmarkar Shilpalaya ( permanent exhibition / museum ) of sculptures created by renowned artist Karmarkar in Village Sasawane ( on Mandwa road ) is worth a visit. Of course, you need to stay in Alibag areas for longer duration to visit all these places or keep visiting time and again, several times. Wish you all the memorable moments in Alibag. Nitin

Dear Valay regards! 1. Visit Sasawane village. It is situated on the Mandwa Jetty to Alibag city road. From main road you need to travel about 6 kms in to reach the village. You can enjoy the exhibition / museum of beautiful sculptures created by world renowned artist Mr Karmarkar here. These are old sculptures but really good. 2. Visit Alibag fort ( some distance in the sea.) but be very careful about tide time. 3. Nagaon has a vast and beautiful sea-beach. 4. If you can adjust more time do visit Phansad sanctuary. You need permit to enter. The sanctuary is situated after village Nandagaon ( on Alibag to Murud road and famous for Ganesh temple ). Real forest and real beasts roaming around. 5. Chaul and Revadanda villages boasts of several very old temples. Dutt Temple atop a hillock is very old and nice views around. 6. Visit Birla Ganesh temple at Birla Ispat ( just after the Salav bridge and very famous ). Open only in the evenings. There are several other spots but then you need to visit several times to cover all. Wish you happy memories. Nitin

Dear friend one day is not enough for Alibag but as per your request i am giving below the places which are worth visiting. This is right climate to be at alibag. Alibag has a lovely unspoiled beach. Tourists can enjoy various hues in the sky at the time of sunrise and sunset from the beach. Long and clean sandy beaches, small boats rocking the sea and lush greenery add to its beauty. There is a historic fort that is now in ruins just off the beach the Hirakot Fort. One of the interesting places is the Kulaba Fort, which lies 1.5-km in the sea from Alibag. During high tide, the whole Fort is encircled with water; while at the time of fall, one can even walk to the fort. It is safe to into the fort before or after one hour of fall. The Old Geomagnetic Observatory, which is 150 years old, is also of great historical importance. The Kulaba Fort and Hirakot Fort give the evidence of Maratha¬?s bravery. There is Angrewada, the tomb of brave and adamant Kanhoji Angre and also old temples of Hindu gods that show the historical importance. Various places worth seeing in Alibag are the beaches, the Observatory, Kanhoji Angre Samadhi, the market place, Uma- Maheshwar temple, Balaji temple, among others. with best wishes and regards pp jain

1 Haridas Phansad roadmap & directions
2 Haridas Road map to Phandas WLS Dear Haridas regards! 1. Please log on to www.mapsofindia.com and you will get detailed map. 2. You can purchase a printed map of Maharashtra from the bookvendors. Costs about Rs.40/- to 50/-. 3. Actually you need not worry about the maps. The road is fairly known to many co-travellers and simple. Ask for directions at regular intervals and you will reach the destination. 4. Here is the direction with major points/cities: Mumbai - Navi Mumbai ( Vashi - Belapur ) - Panvel - from here ask for Mumbai to Goa highway - Karnala bird sanctuary - Tara village ( known for Yusuf Meherali centre) - Toll naka over a bridge - Pen city - Wadkhal naka ( here do keep driving straight - if you took a left turn here you will be reaching Goa ultimately. So no turning here. ) - Ispat factory - Karle Khind - travel through this ghat section - Alibag city - ask for Murud Janjira road just before the city entrance - Nagaon village - Revdanda town - cross over the Salav bridge and take a right turn - Korlai village - Nandgaon village - after few kilometers take a left turn for Phansad sanctuary - if you do not take a turn eventually you will reach Murud town and about 10 kms further is the jetty for Janjira fort. Wish you happy memories. Nitin.

4 Haridas I along with my family plan to travel from Mumbai to Alibaug- Janjira- Phansad WLS. I plan to stay near Akshi beach as I was told that it is very quite beach. Will you pl guide me to take this trip i Dear Haridas regards! If you will be spending just two days ( 13th & 14th) it will be bit tiring. Lot of travel is involved here. Try adding a day, if possible. Staying at Akshi is nice option and will save travel time to Janjira as well as Phansad sanctuary. But Alibaug has many accommodation options as well as Murud near Janjira fort. Mumbai to Alibaug is almost 4 hours travel. Alibaug to Murud to Janjira is about 1 & 1/2 hours due to narrow and winding road. Please do not forget to tank up fuel at Alibaug. There's only 1 petrol pump near Murud ( on Alibaug and Murud - Janjira road ). Tricky situation some times. For Janjira fort, ferry boats is the mode of transport. You need to park your vehicle near the sea-front ( parking charges collected by local people). You will get about an hour on the fort to explore the fort. There will be lots of offers on ferry boat ride about guide services. Exorbitant quotes - try bargaining if you need guides. If you are first timer to the fort - engage guide ( max Rs.100/- for a family is ok - if you can bargain even on this better but depends on the tourist rush when you reach there). Phansad sanctuary is reachable from Nandagaon village. The ganapati temple in this village is very famous. While travelling towards Murud-Janjira from Alibaug, take a left turn after Nandgaon village. Most probably no directions or guiding boards for this. ( I had been to Murud as recently as last month but haven't seen the direction boards for Phansad ). In fact I do travel on this road a lot often, but never seen one so far. Asking for directions is the best. There are a couple of families ( staff members ) just near the entrance of the sanctuary. They can show you around. But probably you need to take official permission form the Forest department. The offices are nearer the Alibaug - Murud road. So it will be more travel - first to the offices then travel back to the sanctuary. You can try requesting guards at the sanctuary if you do not have permits. If you get permits, you can even stay in the sanctuary area. Beware of panthers and wild boars. For accommodation you can contact kiomoi.com. Wish you happy memories. Nitin.

4 ronald do u find two wheelers on hire at alibag for roaming around? and where exactly is bhaucha dhakka for loading a bike on a ferry?is this service available at gateway too? Dear Ronald regards! 1. Two wheelers are not available on rental basis in and around Alibaug. If you know someone there, you might be able to borrow one but there are no shops/establishments renting out two wheelers. 2. Bhaucha Dhakka is "Ferry Wharf". In Mazgaon area some distance further from Dockyard railway station ( on harbour railway). At the almost end of Mazgaon area docks area. It is a very well known spot in Mumbai. You can load your bike here and take it to Rewas jetty ( from here you can reach to Alibaug ). 3. The bike can not be loaded at Gateway of India. From here only passenger transfer takes place for Alibaug. 4. If you like a "long drive", why not drive to Alibaug from Mumbai? Start early morning and it may take about 3.30 hours or so if you go non stop. The route is scenic and green from Panvel. Your travel plan can be flexible this way. Ofcourse you must be very alert while riding. "Safety" should be the motto. Happy moments. Nitin

Dear Ronald regards! From Goregaon travel till Kalanagar-Bandra - Sion station - Chembur - Vashi bridge - Vashi - Jui Nagar - Panvel. At Panvel ask for the Mumbai-Goa highway ( 1 highway goes to Pune and another to Goa ). On this Goa highway, ride through Karnala Bird Sanctuary - Pen city - keep going straight and cross the bridge - about 5 to 6 km - Wadkhal naka ( nice food options at Amantran hotel here - here left turn will take you to Goa so do not take a turn here and keep going straight - Poynad village - Karle khind ( here keep going straight, do not take a right turn. It will take you to Mandwa jetty). Cross over the Khind and soon you will be in Alibaug city. Mumbai traffic is notorious. Keep riding safely. Stretch between Panvel and Pen is scenic but too many turns and ups and downs but traffic flow is moderate. Pen to Wadkhal naka is full of traffic so again you need to be very cautious. Wadkhal to Alibaug ( except Poynad village ) is again green and scenic with sparse traffic. Alibaug city traffic is chaotic. Happy ride and wish you memorable holidays. Nitin.

4 ronald do jetty and cataramans run all throughout the day or only during the day for specific hours? i am looking to unwind at some remote place with less crowd and budget stay, we would be 2 to 4 people. w Dear Ronald regards! The ferry service runs during the day only. It starts early morning and stops late in the evening ( almost young night, I will say.). The time of all services keep changing depending on the season and the climate and the roughness of sea. Please enquire at Maldar Catamarans at Gateway of India for current time-table. You have a more dependable option to travel to Alibaug areas. Time could be flexible if you go by the road. The roads are in good condition, wide and less crowded barring few spots like Panvel, Wadkhal Naka. It takes about 3 hours drive to reach there. The road is scenic at several places, lots of food options enroute is the USP. Alibaug has become weekend destination for Mumbai and Pune crowds lately. It will be crowded if you go on weekends. On weekdays the areas around Alibaug are empty places. One place which could be not crowded even on weekends is Korlai fort. It is on Alibaug to Murud-Janjira road about 10-12 kms from Alibaug. There is a small and beautiful lighthouse at the base of the Korlai fort and the fort is magnificently located. There are few great places to stay in Revdanda town ( abt 2 kms from the fort). Nice options for food. There is a small beach just before the lighthouse. But carrying your food and water and whatever you might require is a must inconvenience. Other place, next door to the vast Arabian sea but where you can not enjoy the sea baths and swims ( rough shores and unclean-messy shores), is Sasawane. There is a resort here which caters nice food, too. Karmarkar Art Exhibition is well known small museum, if you like such things, here. Another place here is Mr Apte's accomodation, is basic but next door to the sea with vast empty spaces dotted with coconuts. Provides nice food, too. Sasawane is between Mandwa Jetty and Alibaug town. Wish you memorable moments ! Nitin.

Hi! Alibag is well connected to Mumbai by sea route also. Launches, catamaran service are available throughout the year except monsoon. Mumbai-Revas Jetty launches leave Ferry Wharf by appox. one hour duration. The journey takes one and half hour. The timetable of the launches depends upon the high and low tides. The same timetable is displayed at the Ferry Wharf for next eight days. The S.T. Stand is quite near to the Revas Jetty. Auto rickshaws are also available. The distance between Revas-Alibag takes another forty five minutes. Speed boats and catamaran service are also available from Gateway of India to Mandwa Jetty. Interharbour Catamarans Ferry Ltd., Maldar Catamarans & Ajantha Launches provides this service. To reach Mandwa these takes thirty five minutes to one hour depending on the type of boats. From Mandwa all these three companies carry passengers to Alibag in their own luxury buses. This bus journey takes another thirty five minutes to reach Alibag. They are cheap but take more than 90 min as far as stay is concerned there are 9 beaches in Alibag and all types of hotel at all rates are available. pp jain

3 mitava bunglow/ farmhouse in Alibaug for weekend Dear Mitava, Difficult to rent out a bunglow in Alibag city. Few bed and breakfast joints do operate but then they will not be exclusively to you or you might have to book the whole facility. Contact MTDC for the details. There is one Umesh Datar who rents his bunglow. It is in Kihim near beach. The place is few kilometers from Alibag city. This could be exclusively rented. Nice place. This is nearest to Alibag than few bungalows on the Alibag to Mandwa Jetty road. Happy moments. Nitin.

Dear Kamleshvaghashiya, Iam sorry. But there are no bungalows with swimming pool facility at economical rates in Alibaug area. The rates will be very high as there are very few bungalows available on rental basis. Try hotels instead. Big splash is good and in the heart of the city. You can get in touch with kiomoi.com, if u want to book a hotel in that area. Nitin.

3 ameetkakoti I would like to know about economy range of htels in alibag with their names Dear Ameetkakoti, In Alibaug, economy range in a good quality place is still about Rs.500+ a day. Ruchi Tarang at the backside of the bus station is a good, homely place at reasonable prices ( though not exactly economy ). Alternate in such a situation is, go for a "bed & breakfast" place. These are authorized by the MTDC ( Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation ). There are several such places in and around Alibaug city. These are basically self-contained separate rooms in a big house where the owners stay. Comfortable and easily accessible + clean places. Inquire kiomoi.com for more details on hotels. They will guide you very well. Happy holidays. Nitin.

Dear Deepak, As far as travel time is concerned, am sorry , you are wrong by wide margin. From Pune even if you travel by expressway till Panvel, it will be about 1.5 hours without breaks. From Panvel you will be travelling on the narrow Mumbai-Goa highway. Panvel, Pen and Wadkhal are the points at which there are traffic jams. Narrow roads and traffic jams will add to the travel time. Plus add monsoon fury and resultant potholes. Safer to assume about 6 hours from Pune till Alibag. Mumbai to Alibag is about 4 hours in these conditions. Plus you might be taking breaks and freshen up in between. Another thought : when are you planning to be in Alibag and Lonavala? If it is coming weekend, please remember Friday 15th is a national holiday. As such there will be a long weekend and you will find crowds everywhere. While on the way to Alibag, enjoy some moments in Karnala Bird sanctuary area ( just few kilometers from Panvel ). Nice weather and green green feelings there. Travel slowly, in control and be safe. When in Alibag, please do not venture in the seas. Seas will be too turbulent and dangerous around this time. Safe should be the theme. Happy holidaying. Nitin.

3 DeepakDon I am planning for a trip to alibaug on 15th august weekend..is it a gud time to go there...or wud mahabaleswar be a better option...I guess i can go to khandala if i go to alibaug as it is on the way Dear Deepak, Alibag is a sea-shore area. Mahabaleshwar is a hill station. Both are very good places to enjoy the holidays. It depends on your liking of surroundings. But being a national holiday, 15th August will be a very much crowded holiday at both these places as well as Khandala and Lonavala. Think before you venture out. 15th August is on Friday and most of the establishments are off days on Saturdays and Sundays. Hence this will be a very long weekend. Try booking your accomodation before you go. Visualise large crowds and traffic jams at all the tourist places. From where you will be driving? You have not mentioned your base station. If you are in Mumbai or Pune , both these places are within driving distance. Mahabaleshwar is bit tiring because of hugh ghat sections. Alibag is easy drive. Wish you happy holidays. Nitin.

Hi! you can imagine the rain fall at all the places mentioned. Mahableshwar is high rain area and is closed in monsoon so no point of going there. Monsoon you can really enjoy at lonavla at bushi dam and great food. alibag have 9 beaches and in rain you can move, so i suggest to spend the independence day at lonavla. Mind you as per extended weekend place in hotel will be difficult. Still enjoy rain at lonavla and khandala is a romantic place. pp jain

Dear Nidhi, Taking car by ferry service is not possible. During monsoon season ferry services are not working. I assume that you are in Mumbai ( ferry service to Alibaug is between Mumbai and Rewas / Mandwa ) , here are the directions: From Mumbai travel on Mumbai - Pune highway till Panvel. From Panvel switch to Mumbai - Goa highway. Soon you will pass through the Karnala Bird Sanctuary area ( a small ghat section here ). Next town is PEN. After about 6 kms from Pen you will reach Wadkhal naka. Keep going on straight without taking a left turn here. ( Left turn will take you to Goa ). Soon you will be passing Ispat plant on your left and the jetty on the right. A busy area of "Poynad" later you will be in Karle Khind area. Keep going and soon you will be in Alibag. Remember no turns and keep going straight. From Mumbai ( Dadar ) it should take about 3.5 hours car ride to reach Alibag. Add some time for breaks in-between. Wish you happy journey. The season is luscious green and cool. Nitin.

3 sanswati143 We want stay at Alibag for 2 days. Give me some information about Travel & Hotals. OR call me at 9987016281. Dear, From where you would be travelling? You have not mentioned your starting point. Please do so, so that I can give correct travel route. I assume you might be starting from Mumbai. You can catch a direct ST Bus from Dadar ( opp Asiad bus stand in Dadar East ). Travel time : about 3.5 hrs. Alternately you can catch a bus from Panvel depot. For doing so you need to travel by harbour railway till Panvel. The frequency of buses is about 15 to 20 minutes from Panvel bus depot. If you are travelling by your own vehicle, the route from Dadar will be : Dadar - Sion -Chembur - Mankhurd - Vashi - Juinagar - Belapur - Panvel ( from here you will get on Mumbai to Goa highway ) - Pen - Wadkhal ( from here you will leave the Goa highway and keep travelling straight ) - Poynad - Karle Khind - Alibaug. You can opt to stay in one of the hotels in the city. "Bigsplash" is bit costly but in the centre of the town and has hugh area. You can look for "Hotel Ravikiran" on Alibaug to Mandwa Jetty. Nice surroundings. There are several hotels in and around ST Depot of Alibaug ( various rentals and facilities ). You can opt for "bed and breakfast" accommodations authorized by MTDC - Govt of Maharashtra. These are mostly nice and well maintained. For food at these joints, you need to order in advance. Wish you happy moments. Nitin.

Dear Mr. Desai, 100% backup for power seems too distant and almost impossible. Normally nobody ( small scale ops ) keeps electrical backups more than 4 hours or so. Currently the power situation in rural areas is very dismal ( no electricity for almost 14 hrs a day or more ) hence 100% backup seems impossible. In Nagaon village there are few persons who provides both veg and non-veg meals, water is no problem and bunglow with hugh gardens. If you can manage without power for some time, these are nice places. There was a property called "White House" on Alibaugh to Murud road in Nagaon. Look for the same. Must be about 8 kms from Alibaug. There is a bunglow at Kihim Beach. You need to contact Mr. Umesh Datar. He provides accommodation, nice view. He arranges for meals. But 2 minutes away is Mr Vijay Chavan. One of the best food providers in the area. Locate him nearby Datar's residence and he sells coconuts on the beach. Happy moments to you. Nitin

Hi! I assume you wish to be on 1 day trip to Alibaug. And should I assume you are based in and around Mumbai. 1 day trip /picnic to Alibaug will be bit hectic. The total travel time will be about 3.5 hours one way and if there's heavy downpour more time will be spent in travel. If you are travelling from Mumbai : remember there are Alibaug buses from DADAR ( just opp Asiad stand ) but better is travel by harbour train till Panvel and get on a ST bus from Panvel. There are Panvel - Alibuag buses practically every 20 minutes or so. While returning try to be at Alibaug depot by 5.30pm. There's a direct Mumbai bus at that time and it's the last direct bus. Else you can travel till Panvel and again catch a train. Please remember seas will be very very turbulent and rough. Do NOT venture in seas at any time and at any point in this season. Nitin.

3 Bhairavi i just need to know whether i can book a samll boat ,a very small boat to celebrate my husbands birthday Hi! There are few boat renting agencies in Mumbai who gives small speed boats on rental basis. These are very fast boats ( e.g. reaches Mandwa jetty within 10 minutes from Gateway of India ). The boats come with 2 staff / crew who operate the boat. The rentals are bit high ( last time one of my friends hired it costed almost Rs.2000/- for a boat with 6 people capacity for ride between Gateway and Mandwa Jetty - to reach Alibaug.) Enquire at Gateway of India. There are few offices just before you enter the area. Currently the monsoon season is in full swing, I very much doubt whether the boats could be rented now. The seas are rough and turbulent. And its not a good idea to be in the seas. Please enquire. I wish you happy memories and happy birthday to your hubby. Nitin

3 simi hi mayuri plz do ans my question. i wud like to know whether gng to alibaug this sunday is safe or no ? we are a gang of 8 ppl frm bombay and wanna go for a one day tri Dear Simi, One day outing to Alibaug from Mumbai will be hectic. Travel by ferry boats is not possible hence road travel will consume almost 8 hours ( to and fro ) including break time. There might be few traffic jams on the way. Seas will be very very rough and turbulent. It is not safer to venture into seas during monsoon times and the monsoon showers had started just a day back again. DANGER is the keyword. You can enjoy the seasides without venturing in the seas ( I know, what's the fun if you simply watch the tides.) So far as accommodations go, Alibaug is a favourite weekend destination nearby Mumbai. Various options are available. Bigsplash in the middle of the city is fabulous but definitely costly. You can go for a "bed and breakfast" accomodations in and around Alibaug areas. Please enquire at MTDC ( Maharshtra Tourism Development Corporation) at Mumbai. They inspect and authorise such properties. These are well maintained places. People are courteous and helping. Enjoy the moments there. It will be fun if it rains more. Nitin.

Hi! Alibaug is a serene, sleepy, confabulation of fishing hamlets with multiple beaches, now assuming the form of a prospering town. It is accessible in about an hour by the combination of a catamaran / ferry from Gateway of India in south Mumbai and then by bus from Mandwa jetty, across the bay. It is also accessible by road via Panvel in about three hours (124 km). Alibaug and Kihim have become the favourite destinations for the weekend-getaway hungry Mumbaiites. Alibaug and Kihim house bungalows of rich and famous all along the coast. Alibaug attracts a lot of tourists in the weekends and business conferences during the week. Alibaug is home to a lot of forts, churches, synagogues and the fascinating tower of St. Barbara. The weather is pleasant on most days due to high density of trees all around. Monsoon is very heavy and thus, ferries and catamarans are not operational from mid-June to late September. However, the rains, greenery, tourist attractions, peace and a direct signal for your cell phones makes Alibaug a very attractive monsoon getaway. Thanks! pp Jain

Sightseeing:- Alibaug Fort , Magnetic Observatory ( very old ) and a tiny beach in city. Karmarkar Art exhibition in village Sasawane (on Alibaug to Mandwa jetty road) worth seeing. He was a renowned sculpture- a gold medalist. There are several beaches around Alibaug. But now being monsoon season the seas will be very, very rough. Best if you avoid frolicking in the seas. Amongst the beaches, Akshi beach is bit safer. But I insist ¬? stay away from the seas. If you manage to travel bit away ( about 45 kms ) to Murud Janjira, it boasts of a long and nice beach but traveling to and fro will almost take at least half a day ( including seaside time ). Again, I refrain entering seas during monsoons. Better safe than not to be in position to feel even sorry. There are several ancient temples in Chaul and Revdanda area. A modern but beautiful, big temple of Lord Ganesh, popularly known as ¬?Birla Ganapati¬?. About 10-12 kms from Alibaug city on Murud road. The temple complex has a sprawling and beautifully landscaped garden, too. The temple opens in the evenings ( 5.00pm to 8.00 pm ). Wish you happy memories. Thanks!

Hi! There are several economy hotels available in alibag which you can stay in. Highland resorts have two resorts which are very reasonable and good and they have packages with food. Alibag has a range of accommodation options, from luxury hotels to mid budget motels and economy lodges. Tariffs range from Rs300 to Rs2000 and above for a double room. MTDC has a resort at Kihim (12 km from Alibag) and also offers tents for the budget traveller. For the booking of the hotels, i will advice you to refer kiomoi.com. Thanks!

Dear James, I assume that you will be traveling from Pune by road and by car. It is ideal if you hire a car from Pune itself. You should travel by Pune - Mumbai expressway till Panvel. Take a turn to Mumbai-Goa highway and travel till Alibaug ( important towns on the way are Pen, Wadkhal ). You can take a detour even before Panvel. There's a turn to Pen city before Panvel. It will be nearer, will save time but then probably has to bear traffic jams in Pen city. Alternately you can take a fairly less crowded and scenic route of ¬?Bhira ghat¬? , connecting Pune to Kolad ( on Mumbai-Goa highway ). From Kolad he can come back a bit and take a road to Rohe city then onwards to famous Birla temple and finally to Alibaug city. Either ways the travel should not take more than 5 to 6 hours including a short break. Accommodation:- Bigsplash in the middle of the Alibaug city is a good option. Vast property ( almost 2.5 acres, nice food and in the city are USPs. Hotel Ravikiran , bit away from the city on Alibaug-Mandwa jetty road is pleasant. If you prefer less disturbance ( which you might be since this is your honeymoon trip ), try for ¬?bed and breakfast accommodations¬? in and around Alibaug city areas. There are literally hundreds of well maintained properties under B&B ( no disturbance , home feel, less costs, nice surroundings. These places are authorized by ¬?Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC)¬? after detailed scrutiny. They are safe, They are economical and offer excellent value for money. One such beautiful place is in Sasawane village. Well maintained rooms, nice surroundings. If you order beforehand, you will get fresh and hot food ( both veg and non-veg options ). I have stayed at this place few times and every time it¬?s been a pleasant experience. My family loves this place absolutely. Sasawane is well known for Sculpting Exhibition of great artist late Mr. Karmarkar. Worth a visit. Mr Ravi Apte¬?s place is just backside of this hugh property. You will take a road to Mandwa Jetty. After about 8 kms or so you will find a road on your left ( there¬?s a sign board there ) to Sasawane. 6 kms on this road and you will be in Sasawane. Do NOT venture in sea anywhere near these coastlines. All areas surrounding Alibaug are dangerous, particularly in Monsoon season. A safe beach is Akshi and distant Murud-Janjira. Places to visit ( nearby ): Alibaug fort, Akshi beach, Mandwa Jetty, Karmarkar exhibition @ Sasawane, Birla Temple, Ancient temples of Chaul- Revdanda. Thanks!

There are direct buses available to Alibag or else you can hire a cab as well. As far as stay is concern, there are several good economic hotels to stay in. Alibag is not connected by train. Alibag has a beach in the city as well as there are near about 9 beaches around the city. Like other beaches on the Konkan coast, Alibag too has a historic fort, the Kulaba Fort, which is just off the main seashore. The fort can be visited during low tide when the waters have receded. A wonderful week-end location! But i will not suggest you to visit Alibag in the month of July as it will be raining now, becoz of this u will not be able to enjoy the beaches. Thanks!

2 Satwant Bahl has replied to the queries posted by me on July 3, 2008 in detail for which I am thankful. One of my question has however remained unanswered. How can I go to Mahabaleshwar from Alibagh. What HI!To reach Mahabaleshwar, there are two routes you can take. The first is Panvel-Pune-NH7-Wai-Panchgani-Mahabaleshwar and the second is Panvel-Alibag-NH17-Poladpur-Mahad-Panchgani-Mahabaleshwar. The first is about 40 km longer, though the Pune stretch can be covered in a flash on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway.Panchgani is 20Kms form mahabaleshwar. Another option By Road:- it is connected with a Good Motorable Road and on the way all the facilities are there. You will find Dhabas, i.e. some sort of a small hotel like in open space, where you can wait for some time and relax, after a long drive. It takes atleast 6 Hours from Bombay. The two different Routes are available, which are from Bombay and another from Poona. While starting from Bombay, You have to take the route from Panvel and via Mahad, you will reach Mahabaleshwar. If you are starting from Puna, you can reach Mahabaleshwar via Via and takes 2 hours. Hiring the following car on per/km basis will cost you this much:- TATA INDICA - Rs. 6.50 Per/km for A/c and Rs.6.00 for Non A/c. CHEVOLET TEVERA - Rs. 8.00 Per/km and Rs.7.50 for Non A/c. MAHINDRA SCORPIO - Rs. 8.50 Per/km and Rs.8.00 for Non A/c. TATA INDIGO - Rs. 8.50 Per/km and Rs.8.00 for Non A/c. TOYOTA INNOVA - Rs. 11 Per/km and Rs.10.50 for Non A/c. Hope this is helpful.

2 Satwant From Delhi, we wish to visit Alibagh in October this year. What kind of AC/Non-A taxis are available at the Mumbai domestic airport to reach Alibagh and how much do they charge for Mumbai-Alibagh? Hi!Take a car or a taxi from Bombay. Alibag is on the way to Goa from Bombay, so you could do the trip as part of a trip down south to Goa. To reach Alibag from Mumbai, take the Mumbai-Goa-Ernakulam National Highway (NH17). At Wadkal 'naka'(crossing), which is a little 8kms ahead of Pen, continue straight (the left turn keeps you on the highway to Goa), and you are now on the road to Alibag! Alibag is about 22 kms from that point!A taxi will charge in the region of five hundred rupees for the journey. Remember in Mumbai taxi fares are calculated in a different way in comparison to other cities. The best way to visit Alibag is taking the sea route from Mumbai instead of the road route although the latter has its advantages as well as disadvantages.Well if you are coming from Mumbai or from some place outside Mumbai, then you have to come to Gateway (this is the starting point of Colaba). Remember to make advance booking of your stay at Alibag through your travel agent etc.If you are coming from outside Mumbai then you have to get down at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (VT or CST) and take a taxi/cab. On meter it will be around 25 to 30 rupees. Alibag by sea route, there are three agencies that run ferry services/catamarans: PNP, AJANTA and MALDAR. The ferry/catamaran takes you to Mandwa from Gateway by the sea route and from Mandwa, buses of the respective agencies takes you to Alibag by road. Catamarans are small ships. The tickets (costing 40 or 50 rupees) have to be bought beforehand and it includes the fare of the ferry service and the bus, both combined.Best time to visit Mahabaleshwar is October to June.Alibaug enjoys a pleasing climate all through the year due to the vast number of trees. Monsoon is very heavy. These are the following hotels in Alibag:-1.Guruji Holiday Hotel:-cost you around Rs1700/- approx 2.Sagar Cottage:-Rs1300/- approx 3.Sun N Sea Beach Resort:-Rs1800 to 3800 approx. Hotels in Mahabaleshwar:- 1.Kailash Parbat 2.Park Plaza. For more information on hotels & booking of hotels please refer IndiaHotalReview.com.

2 AmitShetye hi!!!!!!!! i am looking for a place near alibaug for treking and beach......does kihim beach fit into it ...... Hi!Kihim beach:-is a secluded place at a distance of 9 km from Alibag. You can have an excellent day out in the trees adjacent to the beach. Apart from Kihim beach there are many other places to visit in Alibag. To name a few: Nagaon beach:-It is situated about 7 km away from Alibag. On the way to Nagaon you'll come across many 'Wadis' - Indian style farm houses with personal coconut and beetle nut gardens. Varsoli Beach:- It is situated just on the outskirts of Alibag. It is relatively less visited site and as a result is a quiet beach with sparkling white sand and cleaner seawater. Varsoli is a small satellite village across Alibag, complete with thick vegetation of coconut and Casuarina. Khanderi:- Three to four kilometers into the sea from Thai beach, which is 5 kms from Alibag.Today it is under Bombay port trust administration. With their permission, you can visit the fort in local boats. Kashid Beach:-The famous Kashid beach is located 18 kms from Murud. The specialty of this beach is the beautiful slivery white sand. literally dazzling silveri on this clean beach. It's a favorite spot for advertising, TV serial and film shoots. The beach is complete with small-food stalls. Murud beach:-Murud beach is surrounedd on three sides by mountains. The water here is clear blue and the sand is slivery white. The sunset from this beach is also fabulous. Phansad Sanctuary:-Before Nandgaon, on way to Murud comes Borli village, 7kms to the left is this 'Game' reserved forest for the erstwhile Nawab of Murud. Today, this is a Government Sanctuary for rabbits, wolves, tigers etc. There is an information center, an exhibition, trekking facilities are made available by the government near Supegaon. These facilities are approachable on Murud-Roha road via. Supegaon at Usroli, 7 kms from Murud.

1 diya hi iam deepika my question is why alibagh is good for holiday
2 subhash Hi Mayuri, I am Subhash from Mumbai. I am planning to visit Alibaug in July. My question is how do i reach there, by road or through sea (I understand u can travel by launch from Gateway of India). p Hi Subhash!Alibag is located at a distance of around 35Km south of Mumbai. Tourists can reach here by ferry service from Gateway India in South Mumbai. The trip just takes 2 hours. The ferry takes you to Rewas and you are taken on a bus to Alibag. The cost of the bus trip is usually included in the ferry fare. This is the recommended way of getting to Alibag. By Bus:- If you are leaving from Mumbai, then you have an option of boarding MSRTC buses, leaving every 30 mins - 1 hr from the Mumbai Central Bus Station. Though they might be uncomfortable, they top in terms of punctuality. Remember to grab a window seat! Private buses can be chartered - a good option if you are going in a large group. Another option is by Car:- Take a car or a taxi from Bombay. 2 satish Hi.We are (4 adult+1 child) planning for a trip to alibag for 3 days & 2 night could you suggest me some nice place to stay which Hotel near the beach is Meera Madhav. This is a budget property about 5 minutes away from the beach; but not beach facing. If you are looking for a hotel with swimming pool then I suggest you go for Bigsplash or Ravi Kiran. However these are a bit expensive as compared to Meera Madhav and are located far from the beach. Seaview is one hotel which is located on the beach; does not have a swimming pool and is a bit expensive than Meera Madhav. If you wish to get some idea about the rates, please do give us the month of travel enable give you an idea about the same.
