Hi,

Local transport is basically restricted to three wheelers like auto rickshaws and manual rickshaws. Public transport is not available to move around inside the city walls.

Places which you can enjoy in Yercaud are Pagoda Point, Yercaud Lake, Anna Park, Dear Park, Lady's Seat, Gent's seat, Bears Cave, Arthur point etc.

Best wishes

Dear Rajendran,

There are lot of Travel Agents who arrange for sightseeing. It would be good idea if you preferably book through your own Hotel or from Kiomoi.

Otherwise, there are more than a couple of cabs near the Bus Stand and the Lake who are more than willing to take you to a "ride"!!!!

Normally, the Charges for the Whole Day sightseeing of Yercaud, which includes, the Lake, Lady's Seat, Shevaroy Cave, Raja Rajeshwari Temple, Pagoda Point, etc is around Rs.800 to Rs.1000 depending on your negotiable skills.

May month may not be such a nice idea. Only in the early morning, the weather is pleasant, otherwise, it is as if you are staying in Plains. All the other 11 months are great idea to visit Yercaud.

Best of luck,

Srikanth Shankar Matrubai

Hi Jyoti,

Yercaud is 221kms away from Bangalore.

For accomodation you can stay in Svayambh Villa, it is a 60-year-old British Villa located on Lady Seat. The Hotel is a walking distance from the Lake, Bus Stand. Svayambh Villa has two Deluxe suites which are independent of the Villa and one Royal suite which is part of the main Villa.

Thank you

Hi Dear,

Yercaud does not have a railway station of its own. The nearest railway junction is located in Salem, 36-km away from Yercaud. All southbound trains passing via Salem stop at Salem as it is a major junction. Salem Junction is well connected with most of the major cities of the country.
From Railway station you can take a taxi or an auto for the Salem bus stand from where buses ply for Yercaud at regular interval of half an hour.
111-440.htm
Chennai is 358Kms from Yercaud. Regular buses are run by government and private operators. Buses ply from Chennai, Salem and other important points.A taxi can also be hired from chennai.

Best regards

Hi,

The most popular seasons are February - June and September-November, while late November and December tend to be cold and misty. Around April there are the pleasant showers, which bring the coffee bushes into blossom. The monsoon season (June-August) is not the best time to visit as it rains heavily, hampering movement.

Thnx

Dear Biswas,

The Boat House maintained by the TamilNadu Tourism Development Corporation in the Yercaud Lake provides Boating facility. There are both Rowing (by Boat House Boatman) and Self Peddling. You can choose which ever is convenient to you.

Yercaud is a quaint little place with very little form of adventure/activity for you. However, you can TREK to Killiyur Falls which takes you a Deep Valley. Do take a Guide with you as the Route which takes you to the Falls has been taken over by a Private Developer and you have a take a deviation and this is much steeper and slippery than the earlier route.

You can also take a walk to Shevaroy Temple which is located at the highest point in Yercaud.

Some Resorts and Companies(like Go2Yercaud)  also organise Trekking to Gundur Coffee Estate and even arrange Camping.

Best of luck,
Srikanth shankar Matrubai

Dear Anonymousyercaud,

There are plenty of taxis available from the Salem Railway Station to reach yercaud. They are always ready to take for a "ride"!!!. While most quote about 1000, you should not be paying a single rupee above 800, though Rs.700 is the ideal amount one should pay. You need to bring all your bargaining skills to the fore.

Ask the place you are staying (Grange Resort?) to arrange, they should be arranging for Rs.700, not a single paisa more.

By good food, do you mean restaurants???, then Grange Resort itself has a Good restaurant with decent menu. Grange is very near to Lake so food should not be a problem. Shevaroy too serves good quality food though it is pricey. In the Shevaroy compound there is Malar restaurant which serves decend South Indian Food at affordable rates. Sky Roca has great food.

There are a number of makeshift/temporary market stalls near the Lake . But preferably buy near the Bus Stand. If you want to buy Perfumes/Oils, you can buy in Shevaroy, Bhim Singh;s Perfumery. However the best is the one you get on the way to Shevaroyan Temple. It has a good range and the price too seems okay

Hi Rahul

Star Holidays is located at Salem Main Road near the town center. Some places that might interest you are:

  1. Arthur's Seat: This is a vantage point, which can be reached by taking a steep road going north from the center of the town. It gives a bird's eye view of the BigLake, YercaudTown and the ShevaroyanPeak.
  2. Kiliyur Waterfall: This is 3 km from the YercaudLake. The best time to visit this place is immediately after the monsoons.
  3. Lady's Seat: This is a cluster of rocks on the south west of the Yercaud hills overlooking the ghat road and the city of Salem to the south. On the right of Lady's Seat are Sterling Resorts, Gents Seat and Children's Seat. The spectacular view from Lady's Seat offers a complete panorama over the city of Salem with its twinkling lights.
  4. Pagoda Point:-  also known as Pyramid Point. This is on the eastern side of the Yercaud hills. The name comes from four piles of random stones in a pagoda or pyramid formation, made by the hill tribes. Today there is a Rama temple situated between these pagodas.
  5. The ServarayanTemple: This temple is situated on top of Servarayan hill. The temple itself is a narrow and dark cave and seated inside are the God Servarayan and the Goddess Kaveri representing the Shervaroy Hills and the Cauvery river. It is believed that the temple's cave is so deep it touches the Cauvery river. The local tribes celebrate their annual festival in this temple during May.
  6. YercaudLake: The main attraction of Yercaud is the big lake. In the centre of the lake is an island that is covered by an overbridge to the mainland. The lake island has a small and a mini zoo maintained by TamilNadu Forest Department.
  7. Bear's Cave: This is situated within a private coffee estate. The main part of the cave is situated about 7 feet below the ground level and contains a deeper gorge which is believed by the local people to lead up to the cave situated in the ShervaroyanTemple.
  8. Botanical Garden: This Botanical Garden on the way to ladies seat is maintained by Botanical Survey of India. This garden is famous for its variety of Orchids, with unique kinds found only in yercaud.
  9. Kottachedu: This is a teak forest on the ghat section which connects aroor- ayodhipattinam area. Though the distance to travel in this road is too long, those who prefer scenic drive will go this. The teak wood plantations seen in this area are cultivated.

You could also visit the 18/19/20 hairpin bends during the nights to get a spectacular view of Salem city. Don't forget to buy the famous Eucalyptus oil at Yercaud.

Wish you a safe and a happy journey.

Dear Kushal Panday,
The best way to reach Thanjavur from Yercaud is Salem. The distance is about 220kms and you have plenty of buses from Salem to Thanjavur and Trichy (from Trichy, there are buses to Thanjavur every 2 mins)!!!!. The road condition is good and you can reach Thanjavur from yercaud in about 3 and half hours.

Also there is a Direct Train from Salem to Thanjavur which leaves Salem at 11.45pm and reaches Thanjavur early morning 5am.

There are plenty of options to stay in Yercaud. Yes, TTDC is one of them. TTDC's location right opposite the Lake makes it an exiciting option, but its service is pathetic. If that is not a concern, you can give it a try.

My favourite has been the Sterling Holiday Resorts which is located on the edge of a cliff and has spectacular views of the Salem city.

Other hotels which you could try are Hotel Grand Palace, Silver Holiday Cottages, Shevaroy Hotels. Especially the Shevaroy Hotels is in central location and has a variety of rooms.

Enjoy your trip.

Hi Jeyan

The most appropriate season to visit Yercaud would be September through January. If the rains are merciful this year you could expect good climate after April 15th.You could get good views from Sky Roca,Thendral Resorts,Sterling and Grand Palace. For detail on rates and bookings please contact the Kiomoi as they would be glad to help you.For food though don't expect something unusual.Yercaud is a place to unwind and enjoy the climate and environment as it is not commercialzed like other hill stations. For places to visit you have Shevroyan Temple,Bear's Cave,Pagoda Point,Lady's Seat,Yercaud Lake and Kiliyur Falls. If you are travelling by the night do stop by on the last few hairpin bends to get breathtaking views of Salem city by the night.

Wish you a pleasent journey.

Hi Anuradha

Yercaud is a small hillstation unlike that of Ooty and Kodaikannal in south it is located at a lower altitude. However the weather will be hot in the mornings and afternoon and cool from the evenings. The weather might become pleasent in the mornings only with subject to unpredictable monsoons( it may or may not rain in April).

You have a choice of places to stay with budgets ranging from High to very low.You could contact the Kiomoi(Kiomoi) helpline for the same.

Amongst the most common places you would find Yercaud Lake,Pagoda Point,Lady's seat,Botanical Garden,Monfort School and Bear's Cave. There is a lot of flora and fauna across Yercaud. You will also find coffee plantations.

Have a nice trip and enjoy your stay.

Hi,

Unfortunately there are no direct buses from Chennai to Yercaud. However a number buses and trains operate from Chennai to Salem. Salem is just 30 kms from Yercaud and no matter what you would have to pass through Salem to go to Yercaud. You could come to Salem and hire a cab.

Following are the training timings to reach Salem from chennai central:-
1. Trivandrum Mail(2623),  12:25 AM, (duration: 4h 25m).
2. Mangalore Mail(2601), 12:50 AM, (duration: 4h 35m).

For Places to visit there is:

Dear Ronit Jha,
Trichirapalli or Trichy is about 163 kms from Yercaud and is its nearest Airport.
While there is no direct bus connection from Yercaud to Trichy or vice versa., you can catch a bus to Salem (30km) and from Salem, there are plenty of bus options to Trichy.
There are many Luxury buses from Salem to Trichy. There are no Volvo services as yet.

Have a nice day.

Hi Ronit,

Yerkadu is about 170 Km from Trichy. There is no direct air bus to yerkadu. But you can find buses to bangalore which can drop you at salem. From salem you have to take a car to reach yerkadu. Which is roughly 40 Km from Salem busstand.

Thanks for contacting Kiomoi.
Good Day.

Hi Titu

Covering all places in Yercaud should not take you more than a day. It's more of a relax zone. But the experience is worthwhile.Local/Private buses ply from Salem but then just drop you to Yercaud Bus Stand. It is advisable to hire a Bus/Taxi at Salem (30 kms on the way to Yercaud) itself.Based on your requirement the charges can be determined.Let me know if you  have any other questions.

There are two routes to reach Yercaud as follows:-

1. Bangalore - Houser - Krishnagiri - Dharmapuri - Salem - Yercaud
2. Bangalore - Houser - Krishnagiri - Dharmapuri -  Kadattur - Mallapuram - Yercaud

The first route is of good quality known By all. My advice is follow that. There are no important places to visit on the way except the scenic beauty of the way. The road is of world class. If you are a road crazy you will enjoy the route. Thank you for contacting Kiomoi.

Dear Lallan,
Sadly there are no Volvo Buses from Chennai to Salem which Stops at Villapuram. There are quite a few A/c Hitech Buses which do have a stopover at Villapuram, but Volvos., NO.

The Bus Fare for the A/c would be Rs.320 to Rs.370 depending on the service provider and the time of departure.

Dear Traveller04,
In December, the winter would have set in. The weather would be perfect for honeymoon couples. So it depends......
However, Yercaud is unlike Ooty or Kodai and the sky would normally clear from the foggy mornings by around 10am and you could see and enjoy all the tourist attractions. But it gets dark quite early especially in December.
The best part is literally 'zero' crowds. Only the weekends the place is filled with people, mostly from Salem City (about 32kms) who desert Yercaud by evening.
All in all, a great time if you want to enjoy Yercaud peacefully and at a liesurely pace.
Best of luck,

1. Yercaud Big Lake
2. Lady's Seat
3. Shevorayan Cave Temple
4. Killiyur Falls
If time permits, you should consider visiting Hogennakal Falls, which is about 80kms from Yercaud.

Dear Ashima,
Yercaud is about 4 hours drive from Bangalore and is worth your time and money.

There are a good number of tourist attractions in Yercaud. Some of them are given below.
Yercaud Lake : Big Natural Lake with Boating arrangement by TTDC. There is a big fountain in the Centre of the Lake. Next to the lake is a Beautiful Garden with Deer, Peacock, etc
Anna Park : Good collections of plants. Near the lake.Has a Japanese Garden inside
Lady's Seat : Near the Sterling Holiday Resort. From here, you can have great views of the Ghat Road and the Salem Town. Has a Telescope for better views.
Shevaroy Cave Temple : Panaromic view of the Yercaud town from this spot.
Raja Rajeshwari Temple,
Pagoda Point : Pillar of stones arranged in form of a Pyramid and that's why the name. Good views of the Salem Town fromm here too.
Silk Farm : Located next to the lady's seat.
Rose Garden
Killiyur Falls : 3km Trek. But worth it.
The Grange Castle : Built in 1920 and an architectural marvel.
Bear's Cave : On the way to Shevaroyan temple.

Above all these attractions, the pleasant early morning mistness is Yercaud's chief attractions. The walk through the gardens, around the lake is soothing and recommended.

The Weather should be perfect around this time. Though early morning, it can get a bit chilly and foggy.

The Weather is absolutely great around this time. I am sure you will enjoy every moment of your trip to Yercaud.
Best of luck,
Srikanth Matrubai.

Good Day.

Dear Rishikesh,

Pondycherry to yercaud is about 238kms.
The best route would be via Villupuram-Ulundurpetai-Attur-

Salem-Yercaud.
The route would come under NH45 and NH68 and the roads are quite decent.

The Other Route you can take is Pondicherry-Cuddalore-Vadalur-Attur-Salem-Yercaud. This would be longer and is about 242kms but has definitely better roads.

Best of luck,
Srikanth Matrubai

Hi Rishi,

You can take the following route...
1. Pudhucherry (Pondicherry)
2. Vizhlupuram.
3. Ulundhur pettail.
4. Kallakkurichi,
5.Attur,
6.Vazhapadi
7.Salem
8.Yercaud.

It would be the shortest distance between the two. Road between Vizhupuram, Ulundhur pettail and  Kallakkurichi would be the rural roads of 40 Km. In total from pondi to yercadu is aprox. 200 Kms.

Yercaud is the nice place to visit. Yercaudu itself has several places to visit for a couple of days. Following are the few of them

Yercaud Lake

Hi Mayankr

Please find below the places to visit in Yercaud. You would have to pass through Salem to reach Yercaud. You can also visit Paravasa Ulagam and Dreamland Water Parks. For the water parks it would be advisable to contact them first and get their timings and days of function.

You could also visit thelast few hairpin bends during the nights to get a spectacular view of Salem city. Don't forget to buy the famous Eucalyptus oil at Yercaud. Please book your hotels well in advance as it might be difficult to get accommodation in a good hotel on week ends.

Contact the Kiomoi team for reservations.

Wish you a safe and a happy journey.

Hi Pradeep, Thanks for contacting Kiomoi. There are lot of budget hotels in yercaud. Try the following. Thendral resort, Tamilnadu hotel, Hotel Kongu. Among them i would suggest you to go for thendral as it's the best in that class. If you thought of having nice food. Otherwise for just refreshment you can choose tamilnadu hotel . It's ran by state government so you know what to expect cheap and value for money. Please contact kiomoi.com for bookings. Thanks R.Sundar.

Hi! There are many hotels near to the Lake point:- 1.Shevaroys hotel Near Lake Point. 2.Star Holidays Near Lake Point. 3.Silver Holiday Hotel. It is located near to boat house and near to Anna Garden. The experience at Silver Holiday Cottage is pleasant. The hotel is not one where you can expect much of recreational activities. 4.Classic Cottages Near Lake Point For more information & bookings on hotels, kindly contact kiomoi.com. You can even mail your query to support@kiomoi.com Thanks!

Dear Sudha,

Silver Holiday cottage is slightly higher than your budget of Rs.500. However, if you are going in an off season, you WILL get below Rs.500.

You can visit my blog http://goodhoteladvisors.blogspot.com for more hotel details in Yercaud.

Bear's Cave,
Raja Rajeshwari Temple
Batanical Garden,

Yercaud is not a big Hill Station and the options for a Good Travel agency is very limited.

Even though you can find number of taxis near the Bus Stand and the Lake ,it is preferable to take a 'trusted' taxi which will NOT take you for a 'ride'!!!

Shevaroy Hotel has a Good travel/taxi agency.

I prefer taking a taxi from Bannari Amman Travels whose office is located in Sterling Resorts, Yercaud. Not only is their rates reasonable, but their drivers show good decency and behaviour.

best of luck,

Srikanth
