Hello,

Nagercoil railway station is just 19kms from Kanyakumari, there is a local train between Trivandrum & Nagercoil which is 364 & 377 which runs daily.

The best way is to go by road from Trivandrum as it is just 86km & will take 2.5hrs by road. The route is Thiruvananthapuram- Neyyattinkara- Mulagumudu-Alur-Suchindrum -Kanyakumari ( NH 47).

Thank you

Hi,

Major towns on the NH 47 which connects Trivandrum to Kanyakumari are given below. The distances are approximate.

Trivandrum City (18KM)=> Neyyattinkara (3KM)=> Amaravila (9KM)=> Parassala (1KM)=> Kaliyikkavila (6KM)=> Marthandam (14KM)=> Thukalay (17KM)=> Nagercoil (19KM)=> Kanyakumari

There are two check posts on the way, one on the Kerala side at Amaravila and the second one at Kaliyikkavilai on the TamilNadu side. Normally private vehicles are not stopped. There is also a toll bridge at Amaravila (which crosses Neyyar river). One way toll fee for cars is Rs. 3(approximately). If you are driving at night, beware of the unmarked bumps on the Amaravila-Kaliyikkavilai stretch!

Road signs for Kanyakumari are seen throughout the NH 47. But once you cross to TamilNadu, the signs are so small that you will have to stop your car to read it!

Crossing the Nagercoil town is a nightmare. It will take approxi. 30 minutes just to cross the town and it is easy to get lost in the town traffic and one way lanes. In some places road signs are put up after the junction! When in doubt, check with someone on the road before you drive around in the wrong route!

Take a bus from Martandam to Trivandrum (about 40 kms away, journey time about 1 hour) or take a train from Kuzhithurai (about 2 kms from Martandam)  to Trivandrum. Train services are not very frequent whereas you might get a bus once in 10 minutes.

Dear Abbaas,

The road from Trivandrum right up to Puliyarai (border of Kerala and TN) is good but mostly narrow, winding and uphill all of which limit speed. Traffic is moderate. The road from Puliyarai to Tenkasi on the TN side is superb and one can drive quite fast here. The return may take less time, as it is mostly driving downhill and could reach Trivandrum in about 2 hrs 20 mins.

Just for your refereance

The total distance travelled from Thiruvananthapuram to Tenkasi is 91.8 Km

From To Distance
Thiruvananthapuram Nedumangad 18.91 Km
Nedumangad Palod 11.43 Km
Palod Kolaitupuzha 20.64 Km
Kolaitupuzha Tenmalai 9.49 Km

Hello,

Thanks for your query in Kiomoi, Thiruvannamalai is well connected to many cities and towns in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh by road. This town lies on the junction of the Chittoor–Cuddalore state highway and the Pondicherry–Bangalore national highway (NH 66). The TNSTC operates many bus services to different towns and cities in Tamil Nadu, such as Chennai, Vellore, Salem, Tirupati, Villupuram, Bangaluru, Tiruchi, Madurai, Coimbatore, Erode, Tiruppur, Kanyakumari and to Puducherry.

A railway line between Vellore and Villupuram passes through Thiruvannamalai, where passengers can board a passenger train to Vellore (up) or Villupuram (down) (traffic in this section is now closed for gauge conversion). The nearest major railway station is at Villupuram (60 km). New railway line between tiruvannamalai and chennai via tindivanam inprogress.

The nearest airport is at Chennai (170 km) and Bengaluru International Airport 200 km.

Hi! Thiruvathira Festival - The festival falls on the asterism Thiruvathira in the Malayalam month of Dhanu (December-January). On thiruvathira morning, devotees throng Shiva temples for an early worship which is reckoned as highly auspicious. Tradition says thiruvathira is celebrating the death of Kamadeva, the mythological God of Love. According to another version, Thiruvathira is the birthday of Lord Shiva. The festival has similarities to adra darshan celebrated in Tamil Nadu. Don't it will not affect your tour. Thanks!

Constructed across Pennaiyar River among Chennakesava Hills, this dam is located 35 km from Thiruvannamalai. It has a well-maintained green foam park, huge trees, and a mini zoo with crocodile farm.

  • Padaveedu:

This village of temples is positioned 35 km from Thiruvannamalai. Near to it you can witness the remnants of a 13th century palace of the Sambuvarayars who were chieftains of the Chola Empire.

  • Javadu Hills:

Situated 75 km from Thiruvannamalai, these stunning hills have many charming spots around it, such as the Beema Falls, Komutteri Lake, Kavalur Observatory, Amirthi Forest, and the Glass House.

    THANKS & GOOD DAY.
