YOUR QUERIES AND ANSWERS

Dear Erics,

Thanks for your query in Kiomoi,

Kerala will be hit by south west monsoon by end of May or by First week of June and the Rains are very heavy. There are several places to visit in Kerala the most beautiful Kovalam Beach near Thiruvanantpuram,The best Hill station of south Munnar. The periyar wild life at Thekady and the back water at allappy and Kumarakom. I dont know whether due to monsoon you will be able to enjoy the gods own country kerala. Otherwise also the climate will be hot and humid except at the hills of Munnar.

The Cochin airport would be around 35 kms from the part of kochi that you would want to visit - Fort Kochi. The airport is located in a place called Nedumbassery, and there is a 4 lane road connecting it to the city. The Hills Park Hotel is in Angamaly, which is approx. 15 kms from airport towards the city. So you'll be midway between the city and the airport. Now the if you plan to visit kochi over a weekend, then I feel this hotel will be perfectly okay, because you will be making trip to the city at max 2 times. But if you intend to stay longer, and plan to make several visits to the city then I'd definitely suggest you to stay somewhere closer to the city.Wishing you have a pleasent stay in Kochi

Dear,

There is only Prepaid Taxi Service available at Cochin Airport. The fare for Prepaid Taxi to Cochin is around Rs.430/-(To Jose Junction/MG Road).

However you can get Autos from outside the Airport and the fare to MG Road Cochin will be about Rs.250/- (You have to bargain a little or else the Auto drivers may try to fleece you).

Bus Service to Alappuzha is available at 1030 and 1130 hrs and the buses ply on the Byepass Road without touching the Cochin City proper.

Dear Shinto,

The Indira Gandhi Boat Race is held on the Ernakulam Lake during the Cochin Carnival in the last week of December. This years Cochin Carnival is already over. But do not lose hope, Kerala is a land of Boat Races and there are many you can enjoy at different times of the year. You can stay at Kochi and travel to these places. Normally all these races are held between July and September

The two day Aranmula Boat Race is more a water fiesta than a competition, conducted during Onam.
The three day annual fiesta on the Payippad Lake, 35 km from Alappuzha. The Nehru Trophy Boat Race is held in the middle of the Punnamada Lake .

hiii I think u are talking about hotel pearl continental. well the best and hassle free way for you to reach airport is to hire a cab.it will charge a moderate amount only. Another option you have is to catch a state transport bus- KSRTC from the depot, but with a three year old daughter, i think it would be bit tough for you because most of the times the buses are overcrowded. regards nadeera

Dear Aks, Following are the options to reach Alleppey from Kochi:- By Air:- Cochin is well connected to Alleppey. The airport nearest to Alleppey is Kochi at a distance of 64 km north. Alleppey is connected to the major cities of Kerala like Cochin, Kottayam, Changanassery and Chengannur. There are ferry services to Alleppey from Kochi where you can enjoy the scenic beauty of the backwaters. Alleppey Backwater Cruises: You can also reach Alleppey by backwater cruises: Cochin to Alleppey (5 1/2 hrs) through water. For the Tariff information, i will again advice you to contact kiomoi.com because it depends that how many of you are going to travel & what all facilities you require, so it will be better if you will contact them & provide all the details to them according to your requirement. I hope this will solve your query. Enjoy!

hello,

silent velly national park is 200 km away from kochi. if you come from north side first go to silent valley. you will get luxury bus from palakkad near silent velly national park. that buses are long distance buses and some time there is lack of avialability of seats. from there also so many KSRTC super fast and Express services. in luxury  buses some times you will pay the fare from coimbatore. that is approximat 250-300 rupees. in super fast buses the charge is below 150 rupees. you will also get train from palakkad to Kochi.

Happy journey.

Hi! Luky, Homestays are just like hotels staying but built in a traditional way and its is built for tourist to stay. The process for homestays also is just like booking the hotel, nothing to worry about homestays you can land down in kerala and you can arrange for it and more over when you are in kerala. I want to mention you some programs like kathakali which is famous dance of kerala which you can capture it in your camera and there are shows held in most of the places for tourist and compared to hotels the homestays are less but depends on the category of homestays there are even luxury homestays, homestays range from Indian money (Rs. 1000 to Rs. 6000 or more) I think the Kiomoi will help you out in this accommodation part and don't worry you will get a good place to stay but want to know which date are you coming down becaz Dec 15 till Dec 31st its tough time to get hotel bookings but still there are hotels which can provide u accommodation. Hi Lucky, From Alleppy..Munnar is 190 km by road. It would be better if u can take a cab and go. The rate would come around INR 135O-1400/- approximately. If u prefer travelling by bus, u have to come back to Ernakulam[cochin] KSRTC[kerala state road transportation corporation] bus depot, which is the State Government Transportation. From Ernakulam, Munnar is 140km. I would suggest you to take a cab from Alleppey to Munnar. Any queries and doubts, please let me know...it would be a pleasure to guide you to God's Own Country. If you wanna be free from the hassles of looking into booking cabs and transportation, I would suggest you to go for a package tour which you can book through kiomoi.com. Regards Nadeera

My questions are how many days are good enough for a round trip from Alleppey then taking houseboats to enjoy backwaters (where should be the destination and should make another hotel reservation?) and then back to Alleppey? Should I only make one night reservation in Alleppey since the night after will be on the boat? What will be the effective flight (day / night) from Delhi to Alleppey and then back to Delhi? Any other nice places I should visit (for photography) in this trip and will it be enough for 1 or 2 days more? Very much appreciate your kind reply! Luky from China

Hi! There are facilities other than hotel like homestays in Cochin, Alleppey as well as munnar but due to the season time its little bit difficult especially in December, in Jan its quite okay you can manage to get rooms and from dec 3rd to dec 13th. There is vovlo race happening in cochin so hotels are difficult to get, apart from that there is no problem..and the incident in mumbai is something sad but still there is nothing to worry about it you can go according to ur plan and its safe to be in kerala there is nothing to be worried. go ahead with your plan. hiii, The best and economic way to enjoy alleppey in 2 days is to plan a trip from delhi to cochin [nearest airport] which will cost an average of INR 8000 - 9000 . I would suggest you to take a morning flight from Delhi and from cochin international airport , u can go to alleppey by a taxi. It will take one and half hour drive. Usually the check in time of houseboats are 1200 noon and its a 22 hrs package which can be extended at any time. The boarding point is "nehru trophy finishing point" Traditional and authentic kerala food will be served on board. After one or two days , u can check out at 10.00 am and from there u can head to cochin town. better to catch an evening flight to delhi so that u get a chance to experience a glimpse of cochin[a visit to "mattanjeri" jew street, if u have a taste for antique artifacts, fort cochin, hill palace at "thirpunithara" if time permits]. For photography "Munnar" would be ideal, which an hill station 140 kms from cochin. A model tourism village "Kumbalngi" is also near by. For booking of different houseboats please check kiomoi.com. Hi luky, Okay your first destination should be cochin where you can spend one night going for boating as well as visiting few tourist spots in cochin and the next day you can travel to alleppey where you can check into the houseboat usual check in and checkout time of houseboats are 12pm to 9.30am, you can take houseboat from alleppey to kumarakom or either alleppey back to alleppey and i think there is no need to make one more night in alleppey but if you want you can visit few places around alleppey staying there for another 1 night in alleppey in any hotel and the other best destination for photography is munnar with beautiful hill stations and tea estates and dams i feel you can spend 2 nights over there and even you can travel to thekkady or periyar from there its around 110 kms. From munnar and get back to cochin. Its better to reach during day time in cochin..there is no flights to alleppey the airport is in cochin (Nedumbassery) The distance from cochin to alleppey is apporixatimately 60 kms. and and from alleppey to munnar is around 200 kms.. and from munnar to thekkady is 110kms.. and back if u want to come down from munnar ...cochin to munnar is around 140kms..i feel the best way to reach these places comfortably is to hire a cab but bus will be the cheapest but depends upon the time constraints and the ease in travelling...good day Regards pradeep peter Pleasure Holidaz

Dear Peter, Thank you very much for your quick response! It is indeed helpful for me to make the trip schedule as you know it seems not easy to make one trip from China to India though we are pretty close each other. My other questions are how many days are good enough for a round trip from Alleppey then taking houseboats to enjoy backwaters (where should be the destination and should make another hotel reservation?) and then back to Alleppey? Should I only make one night reservation in Alleppey since the night after will be on the boat? What will be the effective flight (day / night) from Delhi to Alleppey and then back to Delhi? Any other nice places I should visit (for photography) in this trip and will it be enough for 1 or 2 days more? Very much appreciate your kind reply! Luky from China

Hi! Yes, Kochi or cochin is the same place. You can take houseboat even in cochin and kumarakam and alleppey mostly every prefers to take houseboat from Alleppey its 60kms away from Cochin and you can see backwaters in this three places to but Alleppey is the best option for backwater visiting. From Delhi you have direct flights to Cochin there are plenty of safe and clean hotels but due to the the peak season, it will be difficult for accommodation still there are few hotels you can checkout like cochin tower, abad group of hotels..sea lord..woods manor etc.and more..according to your budget. For bookings you can contact kiomoi.com. Regards pradeep peter Pleasure Holidays

dear Jose ,

There is nothing much to see at Kochi But Munnar is one of the best Hill station which can be reached from Kochi or Ernakulam by Road. You will have to travel by cab or bus which will be a 4 hours journey to munnar. November to March is the best time to visit Munnar and leaving aside the christmus vacation the cost do not vary during the year. You can visit now and stay in a hotel which suits your budget. Periyar wild life sanctuary,Mettupaty dam and speed boating,The artistic Tea Garden all over Munnar are the highlight of this hill station best place to just Relax.

Good Day.

Hi! Nilesh, You can do the cochin sight seeing either by cab or by route bus or even by auto...cochin sight seeing places are:- 1.St. Mary's Cathedral 2.Jewish Synagogue 3.St. Francis Church 4.Dutch Palace 5.Chinese fishing nets All these can be seen in reaching one place called Fort Cochin you can take a route bus to fort cochin yeah as u mentioned it will be a long journey to munnar to trivandrum so its better to move down to alleppey or kumarakam so that it will be only 4 and half hours journey. regards pradeep peter Pleasure Holidaz

what is the cheapest option to reach cochin bus stand(for further munnar travel) from airport? and what will be the fare for the same? What type of bus travel is available further to munnar from cochin? Can I go to Angamaly bus stand first and then catch a bus to Cochin...is it practically possible for a new person like me? OR is ther direct bus available to cochin city from the airport? Do rickshaws run on the same route of 35 kms?

HI! The cheapest travel is by bus from airport as you are new its best that u opt for direct bus rather going from one bus to other and if u are planning to go by auto 35 kms then i prefer you to go by car which is more comfortable and they will charge u around 500 from airport to ernakulam city. Dear Sir,

You can arrive at Cochin (Kochi) Either by Flight or Train and From There keep an expereinced driver cum guide with you for going all these places.

Cochin-Munnar (140Km)

Munnar to Alleppey (200Km)

Alleppey-Cochin (70Km)

Cochin to Cochin airport (40Km)

If you are keeping a vehicle with you. You can use the vehicle for sightseeing too. or else you will lose very big amount of time for catch public transports.
