Hi,

There are two ways to reach to Gangtok:

1.Take flight and reach Bagdogra via New Delhi.Go Air offers cool fare on the sector.

2.You can opt for train from CST.Geetanjali Exp will connect you between Mumbai and Kolkata and from Kolkata you can take the evening Darjeeling Mail to reach NJP (Siliguri) .

From Bagdogra Airport & New Jalpaiguri station, it will take close to 5 hours to reach Gangtok.

As of Hotels are concerned. there are comfortable hotels in budget range.you can try out,

1.hotel sagarika,

2.hotel soyang

3.hotel sai kripa

4.hotel oriental

5.asian heights

6.hotel tibet and many more.

If you wish to prebook your room as peak season is coming up for Gangtok,plz do so.

Hi,

NATHULA :

It is a full day excursion trip from Gangtok.

Nathula visit is subject to permit & road condition .only limited permits issued before 48 hrs of tour .It opens only on Wed, Thu , Sat & Sun. Guarantee for Nathula trip is not assured as limited no of permits available . Only 25 vehicles per day is allowed for Nathula. Photographed ID Card is required to secure the permit. Only 8persons are allowed in 1 SUMO.Once the permit is issued , it cannot be cancelled.

Hi,

To get access to nathula pass, tsangu lake, baba mandir and north sikkim, it is mandatory to book your travel through local taas member travel agency. at all cost avoid booking your trip through hotel as it will only add up into your budget. You should have in your possession two passport photographs and an id proof eg. your election card, passport etc to avail the permit to visit nathula.

June is the best time to visit Gangtok & Darjeeling. Gangtok enjoys a gentle, moderate climate all year through. Observed maximum temperature during summer rarely crosses 25°C. Intense rainfalls in monsoon (July to September) causes landslides in this region. July month records maximum rainfalls.

Hi,

Once you reach NJP railway station, you can hire a taxi for gangtok.In shared jeep it will cost you around 150 rs per head and it seats 10 people in all. Sight seeing can be arranged by Kiomoi at nominal rate. It is best advised to book your trip in advance so as to avoid inconvenience and to avoid maddening season vehicle scarcity.

If you intend on taking a walk...the route to follow = super market - mg marg - tibet road - white hall - tna school gate ( not the main school gate but the school football ground gate) - just as you see the football gate turn take a steep right turn...follow the steepest road and you will reach enchey gonpa.

The mode of transport is usually in a maruti van or a mahindra jeep or a tata sumo.
weather will be very pleasant but i suggest you to carry one wollen garment for higher altitude tour. must have rain jackets.

Hi,

Nearest Railway Station is NJP otherwise known as New Jalpaiguri. You have to get off here and board a taxi plying for Gangtok...the price for the taxi differs according to the season and circumtances...so stash some extra cash for emergency...i.e if you don't have cards.

My Personel Favourite is Hidden forest....for its peace of mind and getting away from the main market.
Climate in Gangtok will be very pleasant during the month of may but please carry one of your winter jacket for your higherup travels...have a safe trip..

GTK is connected by road through NJP/IXB. There is no direct connectivity from Nasik to NJP/IXB.

Best way is from Mumbai. Direct train between Mumbai-NJP runs 4 times a week. Apart from this there are daily train / flights from Mumbai to NJP/IXB via Kolkata.

Hi,

You can catch Dwarka express from vadodara to reach New jalpaiguri(njp). it leaves vadodara at 11:55 pm and reaches Njp around 10:30pm. Overall it takes around 46 hours to reach Njp. Since you will be arriving at njp at night time,it is best advised to book your trip in advance throuch travel office to avoid soliciting and nuisance of pimps. It takes 4 hours approx to reach gangtok and nearest airport is bagdogra which is 135 km away.

But from Gangtok there is a excursion tour at s distanse of 30 - 40 kms for Tsomgo Lake and Nathula pass, i am not advising you to go for that excursion. Because altitude is very high of these places than Gangtok city.

Tourist Attractions in Gangtok are:-

Government Institute of Cottage Industry, Sikkim Research Institute of Tibetology. Do-Drul Chorten (Stupa), Deer Park, Enchery Monastery, White Hall.

Hi Girish,

Jeeps, SNT buses and taxis constitute the local transportation in Gangtok. The best and comfortable means of to cover and wide and short distance are jeeps. Group jeeps and taxis run more frequently than buses between major destinations. These are easily available in the city. Jeeps or cars can also be shared and cost split. The shared jeeps/minibuses depart from private and taxi stations until mid afternoon to Darjeeling, Kalimpong and Siliguri. Many of these continue to Railway Station too.

Sumos and larger vehicles to West Sikkim depart from Namnang Jeep Stand. An hourly service for Geyzing,Ravangla,Namchi and Jorethang is available at the local bus stands. For places like Yuksom, Tashiding and Pelling have departures at around 7:00 am and 12:30 pm. In and around Gangtok, taxis and jeeps do not operate by the meter. Maruti Cars, vans or jeeps can be hired for a day or longer excursions

Other way out is to walk the small distances from one to other place.

Tourist Attractions in Gangtok:-

1. Government Institute of Cottage Industry:- Also called as the Directorate of Handicrafts and Handlooms, it is an endeavor to preserve and promote the real Sikkimese art. The emporium is a place where you can see and buy the real Sikkimese handicrafts, such as Thangkas, Choktsees (foldable wooden tables with carving), woolen carpets, hand-painted masks, bamboo-craft, lamp stands, clothes, embroidered boots and many more.

2. Sikkim Research Institute of Tibetology:- This prestigious institute is a place where you can see an excellent collection of invaluable and rare Buddhist books, Buddhist icons and old manuscripts. Displaying the spectacular Tibetan architecture, the institute is located at Deorali.

3. Do-Drul Chorten (Stupa):- Do-Drul Chorten is one of the must visit tourist places in Gangtok Sikkim. One of the biggest stupas in the state, Do-Drul Chorten is a revered place for Tibetan Buddhists.

4. Deer Park:- Offering a picturesque view of the hills, the Deer Park was established in 1950's. See different kinds of deer here. The park is also known as the Rustomji Park. The park also houses the Himalayan Bear and the Red Panda in cages. Also see a majestic statue of Lord Buddha in the park.

Nearest railway station to reach gangtok is NJP. From here you can get the shared jeep or book a taxi. Train coming to njp from kolkata are darjeeling mail, kancendzonga express etc... if you like travelling on a bus then i recommend booking your sit on a volvo from kolkata.

Please note there is no flight land in Gangtok. Nearer airport is Bagdogra airport from Gangtok. There is no direct flight to Bagdogra from Mumbai. There is spice jet flight is cheapest flight to Bagdogra with connecting flight from Mumbai.You can take helicopter service to Gangtok from Bagdogra airport. But you have to book seat for helicopter in advance with Sikkim tourism development corporation.

It leaves from gangtok at 11am and takes around 20minutes to reach bagdogra. From bagdogra you can catch the same helicopter which leaves at 2pm.

Hi!

You will get snow in both the places. You can enjoy most of the snow in Yumthang valley.

Changu is located just 35 kms from Gangtok, & Yumthang valley is 145 kms from Gangtok. The best activity to do in Changu is Fishing and just lazing around & trekking is famous in Yumthang valley.

There is no problem you can take your chil with you but as it will be very cold there so don't forget to carry heavy woolens with you.

Hi Sandeep, If you want a mid range hotel then i recommend broadway hotel. places of most interest while in darjeeling are : chowrasta, mahakal temple, tiger hill, ganga maya park, rock garden, HMI, Ghoom monastery, batasay loop, toy train ride from ghoom, japanese temple etc.. Places of interest while in gangtok: rumtek monastery, bhanjhagri falls, tibetology museum, cable car ropeway ride, namnam hurhuray dara, handicraft centre, flower show or ridge park, tashi view point, ganesh tok, hanuman tok, changu lake, baba mandir, nathula indo tibet border etc..... Kalimpong is approximately 55 km from darjeeling and around 75 km from gangtok. Dear, North Sikkim is the Switzerland of India,the scenic beauty of Gurudongmar & Yumthang are inexpressible, with most beautiful water falls on the way to North Sikkim, Pelling is famous for kanchenjungha view. Please note there is some restriction to visit Nathula Pass. 1st In week days Wednesday to Sunday Nathula pass is open for tourist, 2nd On those days only 30 car is allowed to get permit. Permit will be issued from Sikkim Tourism Development Corporation , have to apply for permit before 15 days.

For Changu lake permit also issued from Sikkim Tourism Development Corporation and open every day(If any natural calamities not happens). Please note Single foreigner or NRI (may with one Indian tourist) can not go changu lake.Have to apply for permit before 15 to 7 days.

For both the place visit need valid Photo ID proof and Passport size photograph.

IF you are heading from siliguri,you can hop into any shared jeep
heading to gangtok, it is inbetween rangpo and singtam.
From gangtok you can hire a taxi for around 3000/- rs to reach yuksom

To Reach Gangtok there are two way

1st: You have to Reach New Jalpaiguri railway station, from there you can take prepaid taxis from praipaid taxi booth. From The Railway station to Gangtok distance will be 127 kms time taken 5 & 1/2 hrs. approx. Transportation vehicle type depends on no. of person travelling. There will NAC Wagon R/ NAC Tata Sumo/ AC Innova/ AC Tavera will be available.

2nd: You have to Reach Bagdogra Airport, from there you can take prepaid taxis from praipaid taxi booth. From the airport to Gangtok distance will be 125 kms time taken 5 hrs. approx. Sir, Taxi from other states are not allowed to conduct local tour inside darjeeling and sikkim. Infact even the sikkim taxis are not allowed to ferry tourist for local sight seeing inside darjeeling and in the same manner,darjeeling and siliguri taxis are not allowed to ferry tourist or conduct local sight seeing inside gangtok, sikkim. As such, It is a better idea and much pocket friendlier if you take different taxi for a different destination as you will be spared off waiting charges and night halt charges. good day.. Thanks! Cheapest way to reach Gangtok from Assam is by train till NJP station.
You can book your seat in a shared jeep from NJP till Gangtok. Once
you reach gangtok jeep stand, hire a taxi which can cost you around 80

Please bring warm clothes, gloves and warm socks while visiting Gangtok during December. You can expect the temp. at Gangtok to be around 8 degrees Celcius.

You could visit Tsomgo Lake and Nathula pass- you can expect the snow to be here.

The walk to Paljor Stadium from Assembly house is interesting and does not take more than 25 mins.

From Assembly house walk towards MG marg ( the popular and new Mall)- walk through the mall until you come to a traffic light- follow the over head bridge from right and it leads you to the second traffic light.

Take a right road which goes downhill along Hotel Tibet and Sikkim Fire service building. Keep following the road going downhill. You will see hotel Norkhill and just below it, you will see Paljor stadium.

HI! As of today, there's no news about the oncoming disturbance in the month of December. In case of any disturbance in darjeeling, it will affect the people traveling to sikkim as well. we have only one road(NH31) connectivity which has to pass through some district which comes under darjeeling jurisdiction. And if you can afford flying, sikkim tourism provides helicopter service which is a fifteen minutes ride from bagdogra airpot to Gangtok. It eliminates all the problem mentioned above. Connectivity between Kolkata and Gangtok are Railway, Road way and by Air. NJP railway station, Siliguri Tenjing Norgey Bus Stand and Bagdogra airport is the main hub to go to Eastern Himalaya part of India. There are daily AC/NAC Bus services and train between Kolkata and Siliguri/NJP. After arrival at Siliguri, you can hire a Cab or Mini bus. there are also shuttle Jeep available for Gangtok from NJP and Siliguri. There are several flights fly between CCU(Kolkata) and IXB(Bagdogra). Upon arrival you can hire a Cab for Gangtok. From NJP/Siliguri/Bagdogra, it will take 4.5 hrs.(125 kms) to Gangtok.

and once in gangtok reserve a taxi to chandmari which would not cost
you more than 60-70 rs.

No, you won't find snow in Yumthang now but you can try your luck with the places like katao and yumesamdong...these places are about nearby yumthang. Tourist flocks those places for snow.

Hi,

From Patna, get on board any train that is going to NJP.You can take Guwahati Rajdhani or any other train line northeast express etc and get down at NJP Station.from the njp station, there are share auto which will take you to siliguri bus stand and from there you will get transport for Gangtok.

If you wish to fly, take a flight to Bagdogra which will be via kolkata and from Bagdogra, you can get shared vehicle for Gangtok as well.

Hope you will find the above in order.

Hi,

You have only two option : either by car or train. we are not yet connected by air.

Best option: From Patna you have plenty of trains coming towards Gangtok. Hop into any train going to Guwahati. Our nearest Railway Station is NJP, it takes about 4 1/2 hours to reach gangtok from there.

Weather in gangtok at this time is very pleasant but do bring some warm clothes and rain jackets for your higher altitude tour....like yumthang......nathula etc..

Hi,

The condition in Gangtok is pleasant now but we cannot predict the weather .You are advised to visit with combination of light & heavy woolen stuff as sudden rain bring down the temp. Also carry an Umbrella for own comfort .
