3 ShivaSharma Finest way to reach Madikeri from Bellary and places to see in Madikeri.
Madikeri is a nice place. Not very commercialized. Pleasant small place with so much beauty and serenity. Places to visit are Raja ji seat (nice view during morning time), an old fort (there is a temple as well inside), a waterfall (where the wind laces your face with drizzle all the time), a botanical garden etc.

hope this is helpful, have fun!

3 varunkalra want to know about area of attraction in Madikeri and driving direction to reach Madikeri we are from Mysore ....]
Dear Varun,
The distance between Mysore and Madikeri is about 120kms and you can cover the same in under 3 hours. The road condition is okayish, especially till Hunsur.
From Mysore you have to take the State Highway No.88 via Hunsur and Piriyapatna to reach Madikeri.
The route would be somthing like this
Mysore - Hunsur - Piriyapatna - Kushalnagar - Sontikoppa - Madikeri

While on the way, you can visit Ballykuppe, the largest Tibetan settlement in India. The place is very good.
The best spots in Madikeri are :
Abbey Falls - 6km. You have to walk through a Coffee Plant and the smell of coffee and the sound of waterfalls mesmerise you.
Kaveri Nisarghadhama - near Kushalnagar. Full of greenery and rope bridge. Must see.
Talakaveri : (45kms) source of River Cauvery and calmness personified. On the way you can also see Bhagamandala, which has a beautiful temple.
Inside the Madikeri city, you should see Omkareshware Temple and Raja' s Seat.

Now kiomoi.com(Kiomoi) is authorised agent of KSTDC.

2 sachinsingh what are the modes of transportn available from madikeri to bangalore? thnx in advance.
Hi,

Coorg/ Madikeri is 252 km from Bangalore. It can be accessed via buses (all kinds) running between other Karnataka cities to Madikeri. There are regular buses for Bangalore from Coorg. Taxi /Cab Rentals are too good an alternative for those want to avoid the discomforts of the buses, or those lurking hearts who want to go for vacation with a difference. Cab/Car rentals are chauffer-driven transportation option where you can move luxuriously in the choice of your car. And if the destination is Coorg, the pleasure doubles up.

Thanks

It presents a stunning sight during the monsoon. Its origin is in the Brahmagiri peaks inside the Brahmagiri Wildlife Sanctuary. It later joins river Cauvery and is also known as Lakshmana teertha falls. Originating in the Brahmagiri Ranges, the falls plunge 170 ft down in two distinct stages.

Abbey Waterfalls, tucked away between coffee and spice estate, is located about 8 km from Madikeri, in Karnataka. 2 Malimath please tell me something about the Omkareshwar Temple in Madikeri.
Dear Malimath,

Omkareshwara temple was built by Lingarajendra in 1820. It is located just 1 km away from the heart of the Madikeri. The temple has both Islamic and Gothic style of architecture. There is a tank in front of the temple.

It is said Lingarajendra killed an honest and pious Brahmin to fulfill his political ambitions. That Brahmin became a ¬?Brahmarakshasa¬? and started troubling the king. The king got rid of the so called ¬?Brahmarakshasa¬? only when he brought a ¬?Shivalinga¬? from Kashi and installed it after building a temple. The shivalinga was named as ¬?Omkareshwara¬? and regular rituals were performed. The bars of the windows of the temple were made of ¬?Panchaloha¬? and an alphabet ¬?lim¬? has been placed in between the bars.

I hope the above information is useful for you.

Thanks !!!

2 yelsangikar site seeing @ in and arround medikeri Hi! Places to visit in & around Madikeri:- Kakkabe:- Famous for being the largest producer of honey in south east Asia, though most come here for the Padi Igutappa temple. This is Coorg¬?s most important temple and the presiding deity of the Puthari Festival. Getting There:- Bus & Taxi: There are daily buses that do it in about 90 minutes. You could also catch yourself a bus from Napoklu. Omkareshwara Temple Cauvery Nisargadhama Bhagamandala & Telecauvery:- At the convergence of the rivers Cauvery, the underground Sujyothi and the Kanike, the Bhangandeshwara temple here has a distinct Kerala touch. Because of the three rivers, it is also called Triveni Sangama. A dip at the Triveni Sangam nearby is supposed to revive sagging spirits, but take prior permission at the temple. Getting There:- Bus & Taxi: Buses leave Madikeri every hour, and take about 90 minutes to reach. The ride is very scenic. Nagarhole National Park:- Though the name literally means Snake River in Kannada, there aren¬?t too many snakes around. Nagarahole is one of the best game sanctuaries in South India, providing a natural living conditions to several wild animals like elephants, tigers, panthers, rhinos and wild elephants, but one is more likely to see smaller game like gaur, deer, wild dogs and langur. Jungle safaris are available as elephant rides. Getting There:- Bus & Taxi: Direct dailies from Mysore and Madikeri. You could also take a bus to Gonikoppal from either of these places, take another to Kutta, and finally hire a jeep. Irpu Falls:- You could begin from behind the Rameshwarna temple, and relax at a refreshing pond halfway up the falls. Getting There:- Bus & Taxi: Direct buses leave Madikeri every couple of hours. You could also catch a bus from Gonikoppal. There are more of those from there. Abbi Falls:- Just 7 kilometers from Madikeri town are the Abbi Falls, as remarkable and striking a sight as you would see anywhere. Situated on private property, a narrow pathway leads you downward to where the waterfall can be seen. Somwarpet:- If you can get off to an early start and if the sky is beautiful with the clouds, take the road to Somwarpet. This 42-kilometer, one-and-half hour drive will surely perk you up. This is the coffee heartland of Coorg. You will pass through some of the finest coffee estates you will ever see. Apart from the popular sight seeing places, Kodagu district has a whole lot of Trekking Tracks for those who seek adventure in the wild. Enjoy!

2 Jeeth Hi We r 2 families with 2 kids each. We will be in Coorg for About 2 1/2 days. Pl. suggest some good accomadation. Also good restaurants around. Advise on type of vehicle to hire for sigthseeing. Is Hi! For the booking & information on hotels you can contact kiomoi.com. They will provide you with the best available rates. Madikeri is a year round destination, but the best season to visit in is winter - October to April - when the weather is cool and there is a delightful nip in the air. The winter temperatures are around 15-20¬į C during the day and 9¬į C at night. Carry light woollens and walking shoes. Places to eat near Madikeri:- Hotel Veglands, Chickpet, Main Rd, is a good, popular, cheap vegetarian restaurant. Mayura Valley View Hotel, MG Rd, has a good view and middle priced food. Hotel Choice is a good place with Western breakfasts and a good menu. Madikeri Attractions:- You can cover these places by hiring a car. Abbey Falls Madikeri:- About 8 kms from town center it is of pretty spot. Best time during or just after the mansoons. A return trip including a thirty minute wait by auto shouldn't cost more then 100. This visit can be combine with a hike to the Rajas Tombs. Kaveri Nisargadhama:- Towards Madikeri, just 3 k.m. away from Kushalnagar lies the beautiful tourist centre of Kodagu i.e., Kaveri Nisargadhama. KushalNagar:- Kushalnagar which is situated 34 Kms. from Madikeri is one of the attractive tourist centres of Kodagu. The rehabilitation centre for Tibetan refugees, Kaveri Nisargadhama, Dubare forest, Harangi Dam are the main tourist attractions. Nagarahole:-The park generally has moderate climate, with three seasons: summer, monsoon, and winter. However monsoons are often severe, and the ideal time to visit the park is between September and May. Talacauvery:-Tala Cauvery is the birth place of the sacred river Cauvery. It is situated on the slopes of the Brahmagiri hills and can be reached by motorable road, from Bhagamandala, which is at a distance of about five miles.Apart, from its great importance as a centre of pilgrimage, Tala Cauvery is an ideal place for a visit by the tourists for its natural beauty and extremely picturesque land scape. Bhagamandala:- Bhagamandala is a village situated at a distance of 34 kms to the west of Madikeri and connected with all weather motorable road. The place derives its importanace from the temples near the rivers of Cauvery, Kannike and Sujyothi, which attracts a large number of pilgrims during the Tula month particularly at the time of Cauvery festival. Harangi:- Harangi dam is built across the tributary of river Kaveri near Kushalnagar. It is an important picnic spot. One can acess its beauty when the reservoir is fully filled with water during August to September. Thanks!

2 ram what is that which makes madikeri an unforgetteble holiday destination? Hi Ram, You will come to know about the place when you visit Madikeri, and believe me Madekeri is the best place for sightseeing weekend. The greenery nature and cool bracing wind of madikeri will make you unforgettable holiday destination. I am listing out some of the places, check it out. In Madikeri City you can visit following places 1. Madikeri Fort: This fort is situated in the center of city and houses a temple, a chapel, prison and a small museum. 2. Raja's seat: This is actually a sunset point and visit this place in the evening. 3. Omkareshwara Temple: Very beautiful temple in the city, having mixture of Islamic and Gothic architecture. Around the City I am listing out only few places, which can be visited with less travel. 1 Abbey Falls: Do not miss to visit this falls, which is approximately 7km from Madikeri. 2. Golden Temple: A city specially built by Tibetans. Really very nice place and can be reached very easily by bus from Madikeri.
