Hello Roccky,
Weather of Munnar remains pleasant throughout the year. Even in summer people require light woolen clothes as the temperature does not go beyond 20c. But months like June & september should be avoided as it rains heavily during these months.

Dear Mr Small,
Munnar is around 160km away from Coimbatore (CBT) and there are lots of buses plying between these places. If you're ok with the bare-bones buses - there are lots and lots of them running, if I'm right, almost one every half hour or so. So you may be able to walk to the bus stand and catch one within the next half hour to an hour - assumnig you're leaving Coimbatore in the first half of the day. These are pretty cheap.
If you want a luxury bus (with reclining seat etc) you may have to book in advance throgh Kiomoi.
Car rental is an option, but I'm not sure if you can get a one way drop off...most probably no. So you can either hire a car and retain it for the whole trip (works out to around Rs1200-2000 per day,
depending on type of car) or get dropped off there, paying the two-way fare.
There are all types of cars and suvs are available.since local transportation is very expensive hiring car and keeping is better option.

Dear Guuru
this is the shortest and the best route for munnar from Chennai:-
Chennai-villipuram-trichy-dindigul-vatalgundu-periyakulam-theni-bodi (bodinaicknur) devikolam-munnar.
up to bodi it is national and state highway from chennai and the road will be very good after bodi up to devikolam all the road is fair and after devikolam up to munnar you will have some patches and road will not be as good as between chennai and dindigul.
The total distance is 500 k.m from chennai to munnar. It is a 10 to 12 hour journey if you drive comfortably with some tea and lunch/dinner break you can reach dindigul by 6 to 7 hours which is 330 k.m from Chennai as it is national highway no 45 and from dindigul to bodi it is state highway no 36. and that also good and again from bodi it is national highway no 49 up to munnar.
I'll give you the train times/prices then you can decide yourself if the money saved is better than the time saved.
Train 2623 departs Chennai Central at 19:30 and gets to Ernakulam Town (Kochi) at 06:35.

Dear Ashok,
You can visit lot of places after you visit Munnar as follows:-
1. Kochi (Heritage): Kerala’s commercial capital and the most cosmopolitan city. Kochi is also known as the Queen of Arabian Sea. Once an important center for trade and commerce, Kochi owns one of the world’s finest natural harbors.

3. Thekkady (Wildlife): A tryst with the wild outdoors of Kerala. Thekkady is home to the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary, one of the few places where you can watch wildlife at close quarters. The herds of elephants that come down to play in the Periyar are a popular attraction.

Dear,
Kerala is better known as God's Own Country, Situated in the southern tip of India, Kerala is caressed by the Arabian Sea in the western coast of India. This beautiful coastal state of India is the country's ambassador to the world of travel and tourism. Kerala is a dream holiday destination of India.
1. Thiruvananthapuram: The capital city of Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram is a district surrounded by the Arabian Sea and the Western Ghats. A quiet, neat and clean city, it has a rich cultural heritage too.
2. Kochi: In Kochi (Cochin), dawn is not often a thing of breathtaking beauty, but just a careless smear of tinted light where sea and sky unite. Daybreak is full of indeterminate promise. Cargo-laden barges and vallams or country boats move, ponderously slow, over the sprawling vastness of the Vembanad Kayal, Kerala's largest lake that spreads full bosomed and silver gray in the sultry sun.
3. Kottayam: The word Kottayam is a composition of the words Kotta (meaning fort) and Akkam (meaning inside). Kottayam is one of the exotic backwaters sites attracting tourists throughout the year. Being a mountainous region with scenic landscapes, backwaters, bird sanctuaries, temples and churches make this a place of tourist attraction. Lying below the sea level, some of its nearby places are also a treat to the eyes.
4. Kovalam: Kovalam, meaning "a groove of coconut trees," is just 10 km from the state capital of Kerala- Thiruvananthapuram. Kovalam is actually a combination of three small beaches. Among these, the southernmost beach, named Lighthouse Beach, is the most frequented beach in Kovalam. Earlier this beach of Kovalam was an anglers' paradise. It still has some small villages, just a few kilometres away, which belong to the fishing community. Gradually, this beach of Kovalam has been transformed to a tourist spot of great interest.
5. Kumarakom: The village of Kumarakom is a cluster of little islands on the Vembanad Lake, and is part of the Kuttanad region. The Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary is spread across 14 acres is a favourite haunt of migratory birds and an ornithologist's paradise. Egrets, darters, herons, teal, waterfowl, cuckoo, wild duck and migratory birds like the Siberian stork that live in flocks, in Kumarakom, are a fascination for visitors. The best way to watch the birds of the Kumarakom sanctuary is a boat trip round the islands.
6. Palakkad: The tourist destination of Palakkad, known as the granary of Kerala, is a land of valleys, hillocks, rivers, forests, mountain streams, dams and irrigation projects. Situated at the foot of the Western Ghats, Palakkad is the gateway to Kerala from the north.
7. Kozhikode: Calicut or Kozhikode is situated on the southwest coast of the Arabian Sea. This district has all the required ingredients to fascinate a tourist on holidays in Kerala.
8. Munnar: Munnar is a small hill station set amongst the Kannan Devan Hills. One of the most popular hill resorts of India, Munnar is adorned with lush green surroundings, lakes, reservoirs, forests, and tea estates. The quiet environs of Munnar attract the traveler to relax in the lap of mother nature. Munnar also beacons the adventure-seeking traveler, who is interested in paragliding. It has some of the highest tea estates in the world.
9. Alappuzha: Alappuzha (Alleppey) is one of the exotic backwater sites in Kerala. Washed by the Arabian Sea, interlocked by a number of canals and bridges, this tiny marketplace is also famous for its Nehru Trophy Boat Race held every year. Alappuzha attracts tourists not only by its natural beauty but also through its locally made coir products that are of a very superior quality.
10. Kannur: Cannanore or more appropriately Kannur as it is known today is a place with a rich history right from the time of the Aryan migration.
11. Ponmudi: A mere one and a half hour's road journey separates the beaches of Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum) from the invigorating climate of Ponmudi Hills. The name Ponmudi, a hill station so close to the sea, in Malayalam means golden crown.
12. Varkala: A relatively new destination in Kerala, Varkala is for those who prefer to do absolutely nothing while holidaying. Due to a spillover resulting from the over saturation of Kovalam, foreigners started coming to the town about six years ago. The trend that started as a trickle became a steady flow within two years. Today, there is a constant stream of visitors.
I hope the above info will help you.
Enjoy!!!

Dear Arvindraj,
Distance : approximately 500 kms (10-12 hrs drive). Best option to get to Munnar would be to take a train till Coimbatore and hit the road from there on. There are 2 trains from Bangalore to
Coimbatore. Planning in advance will be required to secure a confirmed berth in the train.
And there is the road for the “i-love-driving” category of people. Quality of road overall is GOOD, save for patches at few places. It would be a good idea to take a break (overnight stay) when traveling with kids and elders.
Here’s the route map.
Part I (Bangalore to Coimbatore)
Route 1.(till Coimbatore)
Bangalore - Krishnagiri –Dharmapuri-Salem-Erode-
This is best suited when you are planning to take a break of journey anywhere before coimbatore. Dharmapuri, Salem and Coimbatore have decent places to stay overnight. Other places may not offer much options. Bangalore – Salem should take close to 3.5 hrs (a total of 200 kms). The stretch between Krishnagiri-Dharmapuri-Salem is undergoing widening, so there are quite a few”take diversion”boards. On these stretch you would find vehicles coming on the opposite side in the same lane. Not advisable after dark. Cover this stretch while there is still natural light left.
Salem – Sangagiri- Erode is 1,5 hrs. Again , work is going on in this stretch and this goes through the rocky mountains of Sangagiri, so the going is slowed down a bit here Erode – Perundurai-Avinashi – Coimbatore is a wide single road which is very decent and one should be able to cover in a time of 1.5 to 2hrs.
Route 2: ( fast and best rout to Coimbatore)
This is by and far the best and fast route till Coimbatore. This route is advisable only if you are planning to go all the way till Coimbatore for stopover. Take the NH7 till Krishnagiri. From Krishnagiri, take the Dharmapuri Bypass road and keep going till Thoppur. This road has been recently built and there are no signboards yet and no living soul to help with directions. It’s a good 30-40 min drive till you can see the board mentioning the diversion to Thoppur.(It’s a small board and chances of missing this is high, so ..watchout) The road from this turn onwards is a single-road (but nice one).
This road will take you through Thoppur-Mecheri-Mettur-Bhavani and will join the route 1 past sangagiri. Route 2 is shorter and saves close to 20 odd kms. The best part of this route is that this involves crossing the Mettur dam . You will miss this if you take the Mettur bypass.. To cross the
dam, one needs to climb the hillock and get down from the other side. This is a total of 4 kms. In this process, one gets to see the Mettur Dam.
Part II (Coimbatore to Munnar)
Route I (Preferred route)
Coimbatore – Pollachi –Udumalapet – Chinnar – Munnar
Coimbatore – Pollachi (45 kms) can be covered within an hour. The road is a single wide road.
Pollachi – Udumalapet (35 kms) again is a good stretch and should be doable in 35-40 mins. Soon after you leave Pollachi and head towards Udumalpet, the sight of lush green fields invite you. Miles and miles of green fields on either side occassionally broken by a building or two.
This is a preferred route because of the scenic beauty this offers. The road is good, narrow at places, very rare though. As the saying goes ” A picture is worth a thousand words”, I will let the pictures do the talking :-)
Hope it wil serve the purpose

Dear Mr BJ vidhyadhar.
There is no railway link to Munnar. Only way is to take a cab from Ernakulam or kochi its 3-4 hours journey. Its not possible to enjoy the hill beauty of Munnar in one day. Ideally to visit the exotic Tea garden, wildlife sanctuary at least give 3 days time. if you are going all the way to munnar for holiday have a great time. there are state transport buses also but they take long time as they go stopping and are not very frequent.
Places to See in and around Munnar:-
1. Tata Tea Museum:- Located 2 Km from Munnar Centre on the Nallathany Road.
Photography and Videography prohibited here.
Working Time: 10.00 AM - 4.00 PM.

Dear Parveen,
Munnar is the best hill station of south india very virgin. you can take rajdhani express going to trivendrum which goes via konkan railway via goa and get down at Ernakulam or fly to Kochi. From ernakulam station or Kochi Airport take a cab which will take you to munnars beauty in 3-4 hours.
Thanks!
pp Jain
Is there any train facility from ernakulam to munnar or by road ... which is convenient and what are the places to see in and arround Munnar... is it sufficient to to cover munnar in 1 day and return to Kochi ???
hi bjvidyadhar,
There are no train services to munnar from ernakulam, the convenient way would be to hire a cab. an ac indica cab would cost u around 1350/-. there are loads of places to see in munnar like mattuppety lake and dam, pothanmedu, devikulam,
One day is not enough in munnar if you are realy looking for quality time and relaxation go for a minimum 2 days trip

Dear Anand,
The distance between Kodaikanal and Munnar is around 185km.
There is no direct road from kodai to munnar at present. You will have to go to theni from kodai and then come to munnar. Regular st buses ply from munnar to theni and theni to kodai. However nothing like private transport on these roads.
Thanks!
I also want to know: To reach Udumalpet, should we go through pollachi?
Hi Mohanraj
As soon as you come down hill valparai you will reach sungam junchtion. Take the right, and ask for Dhali/Amaravathy Dam Checkpost. That is the route to munnar. You dont have to go to Pollachi for any reason. From Valparai if you go via this route, you can reach munnar in 4:30 hours by car.
Have a safe trip
Benny

Dear Mohan raj,
There is no direct road to munnar from valparai. Pollachi - Udumalpet - Munnar is the main section of the road, where you will need to fork off from Pollachi to get to Valparai, get back to Pollachi, continue on your way to Udumalpet to Munnar.

you can go to munnar from mysore taking sathyamangalam-tirupur-munnar route.
Another option for you would be to come to calicut from mysore, by taking an overnight bus and from there you can again catch a cab or bus or train to cochin. From cochin you have state transport buses or else hire a cab to munnar.
Munnar is known for its scenic beauty. dont miss a trip to mattuppety, pothenmedu, devikulam, pallivasal,

Dear Bhaskiven,
Mysore-Chamrajnagar- Thimbum ghat-Sathiamangalam-Tirupur- Udumalpet- Munnar. The Chamrajnagar-sathyamangalam stretch and Udumalpet-Munnar are hilly sections with scenic beauty. Hilly section will take more time to travel. I think 2 days are not enough to enjoy munnar the best hill station of south india asa you will be tired of driving. Take one extra day and visit the beautiful tea gardens all over Munnar. Mettupaty dam and speed boating thekkady wild life sanctuary are some of the places to visit.
Ideally stay at club mahindra resort the best to stay in munnar.

Hi,
Munnar is 325kms from Trivandrum. It will take around 8-9hrs to reach.
Enjoy!
Hi!
The shortest and the best route for munnar from chennai:-
chennai-villipuram-trichy-dindigul-vatalgundu-periyakulam-theni-bodi (bodinaicknur)-devikolam
-munnar.
Up to bodi it is national and state highway from chennai and the road will be very good after bodi up to devikolam all the road is fair and after devikolam up to munnar you will have some patches and road will not be as good as between chennai and dindigul.
The total distance is apporximately 500 k.m from chennai to munnar . It is a 10 to 12 hour journey.
You can reach dindigul by 6 to 7 hours which is 330 k.m from chennai as it is national highway no 45 and from dindigul to bodi it is state highway no 36. and that also good and again from bodi it is national highway no 49 up to munnar or else you can reach cochin by train or bus from chennai and from cochin you can take either bus or cab to reach munnar.

Thanks for your query in Kiomoi,
Munnar is a hill station and there are no train connection to Munnar directly. Nearest Railway station is Ernakulam which is 3 hours drive by taxi/car. There are bus services from Munnar to Ernakulam but the quality of state buses are very poor and they take long time as they have stops at all vilages and town on the way. There are no Buses directly from Munnar to Allepey. But you can come to cochin from Ernakulam . Munnar to Allepey is 151 km and will take apprximately 2 hours 10 minutes by cab. Angamali (AFK) is a nearby train station connected to Alleppey. From Kochi does not have railway station. Eranakulam Jn (ERS) and Ernakulam Town (ERN) are 2 nearby train stations.

Hi,
There are no train service to munnar. You have to come to ernakulam first then hire a cab to munnar. You have madrass mail from chennai.
In july it is going to be rainy season in munnar.
Regards
Nadeera
Dear Ram,
I will not suggest you to go to Munnar in July as monsoon rain will be in full swing with no chance of visiting munnars beauty and the wildlife. Ideal time to vist munnar is in October to march. April may is bit warm and very crowded due to vacation.
The distance between Chennai and Munnar is about 600 kilometres. Chennai you can take any train to ernakulam and from ernakulam take a cab to munnar. How to travel depends on the individual (economy, age, stamina, sense of adventure etc.). Personally, I would always choose public transport.
Getting from Chennai to Munnar by public transport is relatively simple. There are 5 or so daily trains between Chennai and Madurai (7½ to 10 hours), and frequent buses from Madurai to Munnar (4 to 5 hours). Alternatively, you could go from Madurai to Kumily (4 hours) before heading to Munnar (4 hours).
Dear Mr. Ram,
Thanks for your enquiry.
The climate in Munnar will be cool.
for more info please log on to www.prh.co.in
Regards
Sridevi
The climate and the nature of Munnar itself is a worth to visit. You can explore Eravikulam National Park where you can see the Nilgiri Taars at Rajamala. There is the tea garden of Tata Tea, The Mattupetty Dam site and lot more.
In Kochi there is the Marine drive, Fort Kochi, Bolgatty Palace, Children's Part, Shipyard etc. etc.
If you want an agent/ guide/car with driver Kiomoi can help you with that. They can fetch you from the Airport/Railway station and provide decent accommodation too.
Dear Rajamol,
Mysore-Chamrajnagar- Thimbum ghat-Sathiamangalam-Tirupur- Udumalpet- Munnar. The Chamrajnagar-sathyamangalam stretch and Udumalpet-Munnar are hilly sections with scenic beauty. Hilly section will take more time to travel.
I think 3 days are enough to enjoy munnar the best hill station of south india asa you will be tired of
driving. Take one extra day and visit the beautiful tea gardens all over Munnar. Mettupaty dam and speed boating thekkady wild life sanctuary are some of the places to visit.
You are traveliing in the full monsoon season when the rainfall all over kerala is very heavy and you will not be able to move out of your hotel room. the ideal time to visit munnar is from september to april best november to february.
with best wishes and regards
ppjain
